Refugio Amazonas Lodge

We loved our time at Refugio! The lodge is beautiful and has everything you need. The guides are very knowledgeable and the activities are extremely fun and interesting.

Nothing really. The only thing is that it was our honeymoon and despite communicating this in advance nothing was done to acknowledge this — although that’s being really fussy!

The staff

Everything was great. You don’t see a ton of wildlife tbh

Facilities were excellent super well maintained and so clean! They make you take your walking shoes at the entrance and it makes such a difference Waking up to Howlers was unreal Food was really good and had a local Amazon sense to it Room was huge and super clean Clay lick tour was good Staff at the lodge were really lovely and our guide was good From previous reviews I stressed so much about bugs in the rooms and it was totally fine

We did 3/2 there but in reality we only got 2 excursions on the second day (and one night walk first day after we asked for it) We took an early flight as advised and still had to wait in the office for another flight which arrived after 1. That made us arrive at lodge after 4pm and essentially miss out on afternoon excursion that day Excursions: I think tours should maximise more the day. The clay lick is the only reasonable length tour. You end up spending most of the time in the lodge which is a shame. We didn’t see that much wildlife, again, if excursions were longer perhaps our chances would have gone better Leaving at 7am on the day of departure is ridiculous. Have never stayed in any hotel that make you do that (again, missing out on excursions opportunities) If all above is taken into account by the management and you get an excursion on day of arrival and on day of departure than I would 100% recommend staying there if you go to Tambopata. Boat - its a little uncomfortable sitting sideway, be better if they fitted it same as TRC (proper seat, facing forward) as you spend quite long time in it. You should know to get to the lodge you have to walk up about 100 steps and than walk for 10 minutes. We had older people in our boat and they struggled with the climb. Didn’t bother us. Nothing to do with the lodge but we were disappointed to see the gold mining along the river. It’s so sad to see that. We love going to Africa and we expected it to be similar in terms of conservation but looks like Tampobata / Peru government is still way behind.

Brilliant wildlife, our guide Yatto was awesome. Food was good in buffet style. Great setting. A must to stay if you're doing the Amazon.

Excellent organization and magical location. The guides are exceptional.

The check-in and check-out days are practically lost in waiting and traveling. Guides are personal so stick with them because if your guide for any reason cannot follow you nobody tells you anything.

Unser Aufenthalt in Refugio Amazonas Lodge war außergewöhnlich und hat alle Erwartungen übertroffen. Die Zimmer waren trotz der abgelegenen Lage Mitten im Amazonas luxuriös und wunderschön eingerichtet. Sie waren zu einer Seite hin offen, sodass wir zu den Klängen des Dschungels aufwachten. Das Essen war abwechslungsreich und lecker, das Personal war zuvorkommend und erfüllte uns jeden noch so ausgefallenen Wunsch. Die Aktivitäten waren einmalige Erfahrungen und gut durchdacht und unser persönlicher Führer Juan Carlos war unglaublich und hat sichergestellt, dass wir unseren Aufenthalt niemals vergessen werden.
