Refugio Amazonas Lodge

Amazing lodge! You really experience the the jungle fully here. They have a good variety of activities to choose from and our allocated guide, Alan, was the best. We saw many animals, birds, insects and spiders. The staff were very friendly. The food was fantastic. I highly recommend this lodge.

The rooms don't have a closed off roof, which means that you can hear everything from the guests staying in the adjacent rooms.

Stunning accommodation, friendly and helpful staff, an excellent guide, fascinating excursions, a scientific research centre which genuinely contributes to conserving the flora and fauna whilst helping the local community. Altogether the best experience we could have had in the Amazon. Not cheap but this was a once in a lifetime experience and worth every penny. Slept better here than ever before.

Very nice property, food great.

A bit pricey

The guide Louis, was fantastic during the tour.

1) Based on the level of the property. Food options were minimal, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Volume of food was also minimal. 2) The rooms did not have a ceilings, therefore you could hear the next rooms activity, including bathroom.

This place is outstanding! Highly, highly recommend! The lodge and rooms are clean and comfortable (if you are going in winter, bring warm clothes). The food is buffet style and very good, and is culturally relevant! My daughter (17) chooses not to eat a lot of food, and she was always able to find something - rice, chicken, plain rolls). Your group is assigned a guide, who is present when you are picked up at the airport, on all excursions and accompanies you to the airport when you leave. That makes for an in-depth experience on your excursions as the guide knows your group’s interests, and the information about the jungle previously shared with you. Just this alone is worth the cost. We loved the Macaw clay lick experience. Seeing the brightly colored birds in a flock - incredible. The night walk we did twice, and saw a tarantula as big as my hand, all kinds of spiders, a poisonous centipede, scorpion. There are different kinds of monkeys all around the lodge and on the excursions. In our last day, an eagle (an apex predator) was in the neighborhood, and all the monkeys came down from the trees to be safe. So cool.

The lodge is built with the rooms as part of the same building, but the walls don’t go all the way up, so there is a little lack of privacy. You can address this by talking softly, but you hear your neighbors.
