"Don't expect cleanliness in this place!!! "

6.0

Booked to stay 3 nights in TG & the booking through the 3rd party said we had to contact the property beforehand to get check-in instructions. They didn't bother to answer any of my messages so ended up having to give them a call only to be told there aren't any special instructions but check-in is from 2 till 5, unlike the timings given on the booking which was 2 till 6. Had read the reviews on TripAdvisor before the visit and the review re cockroaches so we were really dreading it! First impressions of the place was fine as it looked like a typical resort apartment complex. People at reception were friendly. The studio had a kitchenette & a balcony and seemed to have the essentials we need. After a while, it was clear it wasn't all that great. There was no soap given, not even a tiny bar. Two rolls of toilet paper were left but they have got to be the tiniest rolls of toilet paper we have ever seen & the sheets were quite thin. We had to ask for another roll on the last day! The cabinet near the door was full of junk which presumably were left over from previous visitors. There were useful things like an iron and an ironing board. There were other things like sheets and blankets which were all squished together - it looked like Monica's hidden cupboard of junk from the sitcom "Friends"! It was impossible to open both doors of the cupboard at the same time without everything falling out! Drawers in the TV cabinet were empty but filthy so we had to clean them out before we could use them. Kitchen cabinets and tables and chairs were filthy, with stains left by previous occupants. The whole place had obviously not been cleaned properly. The couch/ pull out bed looked stained and grubby, so it felt like we couldn't really leave any of our stuff anywhere as there was no clean surface anywhere other than the bed (well we were hoping it was clean!) The worst was yet to come as the floor felt really dirty so we started sweeping it. The broom provided was so dirty we were basically dragging dirt around. We then got the mop and bucket and had to disinfect the mop with boiling water. When we were done with the floor, the water we threw out was grey with dirt - probably partly due to the filthy mop left as well. We had just checked in but had to spend more than half an hour cleaning up the place to make it fit for purpose!! This is really poor esp when we are still coping with a global pandemic. There were also strange little flies in the apartment which we noticed in the evenings. There was no WiFi in the room and though there was a pool we weren't around the apartment much to use it & it looked pretty grotty from the room balcony so we didn't bother. There is free parking at the hotel and as some reviewers have mentioned, it's a few mins' walk to a mini market and a slightly longer walk to a shopping mall & larger supermarket. We didn't walk into town but it would have probably taken 25-30 mins. The good news is we didn't encounter any cockroaches during our stay other than one in the corridor & the bad news is this place wasn't clean. We are fully aware that for the price we paid, it wouldn't be a mansion but we were expecting a high standard of cleanliness as a basic requirement of guesthouses. Sadly, TG failed on this occasion. One good thing about staying at TG was that we discovered the amazing fish restaurant Tres Palmeiras when we were looking for the hotel & visited for lunch one day. It's awesome & great value - defo recommended! As we slept really well in general in TG, we are giving it an average when the state of cleanliness (or the lack thereof!!) should have earned them a poor rating. There must be better places to stay in Tavira where the first thing after you get to the room isn't having to clean it from top to bottom!

"Super-sized crokroaches, disgusting, stinky, dirty rooms: Avoid!!!"

2.0

Spent there 4 days with my family, including two children (2 and 4 year old). The staff was kind, but that's the only positive thing I can tell about the place. Our room was perhaps the dirtiest I have paid for in Europe. Believe me, as we normally prefer low-budget accommodations, we are not the people who cannot tolerate anything, but 5 star-level cleanliness and hygiene. But this extent of dirt was absolutely shocking. The room was stinking, it smelled like if a heavy smoker lived there for decades (it was a non-smoking facility!!). The toilet emitted rotten smell of sewer. The utensils, the glasses were dirty and greasy, the linens were dirty too, the garden was patterned with thrash, pretty much everything was terribly disgusting. Moreover, there was no internet in the rooms, and my kids could not sleep because of a barking of a dog, kept in an appartment in front of us (presumably all day, which is a torture for the animal and for the people who has no choice than to listen its barking). On top of this, last night we met a huge crockroach in the bathroom. I photographed It, come check its award-winning size (but definitely not when you are eating). In my opinion, demanding money for a service like this is a crime. Tavira Garden ruined 4 days of our holiday, we made a terrible mistake when we chose this accommodation. The only thing I can recommend to anyone who reads this review to avoid this place as far as you can.

"Management likes to fight with guests"

6.0

The studio was quite okay..quite some necessary tools missings..no bottle opener no equipment to use the oven...old toaster that caused me being on the dark as well as an old coffeemachine that caused anther few hours in the dark...the place is full of slidy steps so try to find your way without falling is a challenge..mr Sandro understood and did his utmost for my safety..mrs Monica (I HEARD HER VOICE TWICE, WHILST LEAVING AND TELLING HER THAT I LEFT THE KEYS IN THE INDICATED PLACE) wants a debate about how difficult a guest can be, when he asks for good working electric facitilies..in order not to break your neck...she thinks I am difficult and hard to please...anyhow..never put your (well paying) guests pubicly in fault...espescially if the guest has not seen your face during a stay of 16 days

"Short break to grab some winter sun "

10.0

Stayed in Tavira Gardens for 4 nights in early October with my husband We had booked a studio apartment as there was only the two of us so were delighted with the spacious 2 bedroom apartment we were given Beautifully decorated ,well equipped kitchen, air con, spacious bathroom with plenty of hot water and a bath !!! (I love a bath )Strong shower was also available. Didn’t get to use the resort facilities ie pool ,bar or restaurant as we were out and about all day every day , besides I’m not even sure they were open being October. It is situated on a main busy road though and about 15 minutes walk into town. Great for us but possibly not great if you have small children. It’s about a 5 minute walk from porta nova train station which runs the whole of the Algarve so easy to explore from. Never met any staff, but email correspondence and instructions for finding key and apartment were very clear and helpful. Overall a brilliant spot and one I hope to return to

"Pleasant stay - just outside town centre"

10.0

Our particular flat was near pool and tennis courts and in a relatively quiet location. This apartment also had its own WiFi so cannot comment on public WiFi spaces. All public areas were very clean and gardens well maintained. There is a bar next to the pool on site (not sure if this is open all year though) and shops nearby. The pool was open when we were there from 10:00am - 8:00pm and was cleaned daily. There is a busy road outside the site to contend with, if you enjoy walking/cycling like us. There is no dedicated footpath alongside it, but this was not too much of a problem as the walk was for no more than 5 minutes before reaching a pavement. Many people at this site use hire cars or cabs...something that we would do if we had children with us. Approx. 5 mins walk to closest local Supermarket, 15mins walk to large Shopping centre and 20-25 mins walk to Tavira centre. It was an approx. 10-15min walk from Porta Nova train station. Highly recommended. Travelled as a couple.

"Dave Knight"

2.0

I’ve been visiting Tavira for many years now and I must say it is a wonderful place to holiday. I have stayed at several different locations around Tavira and this time decided to stay at Tavira Gardens. We have passed the location on numerous occasions and it came highly recommend. The apartments are clean and there is a great bar/restaurant on site so all seemed perfect. Our first day was great we popped in to Tavira for a bite at to eat at the Belmar which by the way has to be one of the best restraints in Tavira and headed back for couple of drinks and off to bed. The following morning we woke early had some breakfast and headed off to the swimming pool. When we arrived at the pool 9.30ish it was closed as the cleaning attendant was doing some maintenance work. We where told by the cleaner that it was shut and it would be open later in the day. No big deal. We went back the following morning for a swim and again the pool was closed. I asked the same cleaning attendant if we could go for a swim and was rudely grunted at and again told to come back after lunch. I told him that the sign clearly stated that the pool opens at 9.00am and not after mid day. He was possibly the rudest man I have ever come across and spoken to. I certainly have to say that I was quite shuck up after my encounter with the bolshy argumentative jobs worth. The following morning I went down to the pool at 10.00am and again was shouted at by the bully of a pool attendant. I was shocked as this was now my 3rd attempt to have a mid morning swim. I told him that if he was this rude to customers back in the UK he would not be employed for long and would probably be shouted back at and would have to visit the job centre fortnightly to sign on. Well this did not go down too well with the pool attendant who then started shouting and swearing at me in front of my wife and young toddler He continued his outburst for 30 or so seconds and then went off shaking his fists. I was shocked and my wife who is a Zumba teacher and likes to swim daily to keep fit was almost in tears. Our little boy was crying we where all in a state of shock!!! I will defiantly go back to Tavira but would not stay at Tavira Gardens and would also suggest that you don’t either. It’s a great place with good honest hard working people but occasionally you come across some one like this pool attendant who is a good for nothing work shy bully. Dave Knight.

"Well located"

6.0

Well located, out of town but near everything that matters. The appartments are satisfactory, parking space is usually enough, and there is a snack bar. There is also a swimming pool. One of its problems is the noise of people in the pool, another one may be the parking.
