Hotel Santa Maria Inn

We reserved through hotels.com and arrived 35 minutes later. At first they told us that the room we rented was not available, as it was already booked. The woman at the desk didn't speak English so she put me on the phone with someone who explained the situation and said he'd call back with some recommendations of where we could go and how I'd be reimbursed. When he called back, he confirmed that he did have a room for us. It was different than what we reserved, but comfortable. The lighting was a hideous florescent, but there were candles available, which set the mood much better. The desk helped us with a food order, since there was nothing very close by. They set up my shuttle to the airport for 4:45 in the morning which was on time and my mission was accomplished, a good night's sleep and a punctual ride to the airport! NOTE: Last minute hotel.com bookings might not be the best idea in Costa Rica!

We had stayed all over Costa Rica and missed our flight the last day so we needed a quick place to stay. It is not walking distance to anything but it was perfect for us. The girl that checked us in was more than helpful; getting us the different wifi passwords, ordering us our pizza and bringing it up to our room, making sure we had one of the employees take us to the airport at 5am. The overall experience was perfect for our needs and I was so thankful for the great customer service!

The room I stayed was for two people. They have dorms as well. This review if for the individual room. Pros: Hotel is very close to the airport. Probably less than 3 miles. Staff was very courteous and spoke good English. Ambiance is good and a very quiet neighborhood. Hot and cold water available. Comfortable for two people. Cons: Access road is a little remote with no shops or restaurants close by. Had to walk about ten-fifteen minutes to access restaurant or shops. For safety reasons gates are always closed. So in order to enter the property, have to ring the bell

Room was clean, Ricardo was most helpful, location was in a neighborhood so not close to anything but felt safe and secure. Left too early in the am to have breakfast. Price was right compared to other choices we had for just an overnight close to airport stay.

Ridiculously expensive for what you get. We booked this hotel with our disability dog. We confirmed twice by phone we had him before we arrived. When we arrived at the hotel exhausted, they charged another $50. We wanted to leave, but it was late and our other favorite local hotel was full. Then the manager told us we had to keep our service dog in a broom closet in the janitor's room! We refused, of course. The showers were freezing, there was no towel rack in the bathroom, there was no coffee. Rooms are spare and bedspreads dingy. Poor locks on the doors and nothing nearby besides the airport. We live in Costa Rica, and have stayed all over. I've never had such a terrible hotel experience!

I needed a hotel near the airport to take a 6:30 am flight the next day. This worked out great. The staff was nice and the room clean and it is close to the airport. They will take you TO the airport but they don't pick you up. I don't know if that is clear on Expedia. For me I had to make a stop at a pharmacy when I arrived anyway so I took a taxi for around $9. I was worried about leaving the hotel at 4:00 am. Would the driver be there? I went to the lobby just before 4 and it was dark and no one around, but sure enough at 4 there was my ride. I have lived in CR for almost a year now and have stayed in many inexpensive hotels. You will not find perfection at this price point. What you usually find if you shop around is a clean hotel, safe area, helpful and friendly staff, comfortable room, nothing fancy, and that's what you get here. I would stay here again and recommend it to a friend.

Very difficult to locate--no map. There is another Hotel Santa Maria that we were directed to in San Jose--traffic was a nioht mare! The "family room was ok bedwise, but one bathroom for 6???? Receptionist was happy to arrange taxis for expensive trip to airport, disregarding their ad that transportation was included. We were charged an extra $20 for our guide dog, no compensation for the included breakfast that we could not use because of departure time. Receptionist was confusing for lack of English (??) although we spoke some spanish. Although security was there, entrance and getting out was not convenient.

We stayed at Santa Maria Inn for one night. We arrived to San Jose in the late evening and didn't want to drive to Arenal at night. Santa Maria Inn is a small hotel and definitely served its purpose. We arrived late so the gates were already closed, but the staff was friendly and helped us get settled. It's not a fancy hotel but the staff is friendly, rooms were clean and they offer continental breakfast (eggs, fruit, coffee, juice). It's also very close to the airport -- about a 15 minute drive.

Great place to start or end a trip to Costa Rica, very close to airport with very helpful family staff. The only problem was the shower in room 6, it had no option for spray just a full stream of water, shower head was broken.

It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. If you don't drive, it is difficult to get to anywhere. It is. Family operated hotel, front door closed up very early, and u have to call the door and have someone comes down to open the door for you. The room layout is very strange, air conditioner locates behind the curtain! So if you wish to turn it on, you would need to leave the curtain open. The breakfast is nice, but the cooking lady was 30mins late the second morning....
