Hotel Santa Maria Inn

We would definitely recommend The Santa Maria Hotel. It isn't anything special inside but the friendliness of the staff makes it great. We arrived at the San Jose airport late and called the hotel for a oickup. The owners son picked us up and he was very kind, spoke perfect English and when when we said we were hungry he suggested ordering pizza. That was so nice as we didn't feel like going out. The breakfast the next day was great. Fresh fruit and eggs and toast and great coffee! I would stay here for sure if you need a place in San Jose.

We only stayed one night, but the staff was helpful and the breakfast was wonderful, especially the fresh fruit. The room was small but comfortable. We chose this hotel because we arrived late to SJO and the hotel is only minutes away.

No one picked us up on arrival as promised, but did show up after we called. Room very small, but clean. Shower head was broken. Okay room and convenient location, but too expensive for what you get.

I stayed at the Santa Maria Inn after spending a week in Nosara. It was an excellent choice. If you're looking for a five-star hotel, with a fancy restaurant, big pool, etc., choose a different place, but if you're looking for a simple, clean room in an attractive building that feels like it's part of the neighborhood go to Santa Maria. The Inn is a family-run business so they take great personal pride in keeping their guests happy (they even personally drove me to dinner and back, when Iw as ready, in their own car!). They live in a separate house right behind the Inn so you feel as if you're staying in a Bed and Breakfast. My room was clean, bright, airy and comfortable. I had cable TV in my room, plus wifi, internet access and snacks. The fact that it is less than a 10-minute drive to the Airport is a big plus, and they will shuttle you there if you need a ride. I wiould definitely recommend Santa Maria Inn to my friends.

The hotel staff and ownership were great. I was welcomed by Ricardo who spoke great English and explained the hotel and surrounding area. The owner, Arturo was extremely helpful in giving directions to various restaurants, and the housekeeping staff handled the one challenge I had within about 15 minutes. The breakfast was good and cooked to order, and the general housekeeping of the entire property was better than most. The only challenge I had with my two day stay is I did not have a car and instead of calling a taxi I elected to walk for meals. While the walk was not far (1-2km) the road is not very wide, there are no sidewalks, and the streets are not well lighted. Traffic wasn't bad and I made it a point not to walk after dark. Overall, I would stay here again (even without a car) and will recommend it.

Easy access to the airport, and the free airport shuttle is great. Comfortable room and nice staff. Seemed a bit pricey, but convenient if flying in or out of San Jose airport.
