"Disappointing stay"

6.0

First let me say the good things. The location is good, in the historical part of the waterfront, and it is quiet. The staff are mostly delightful. The breakfast is good. The pool area at the neighbouring Dock House is very pleasant. However, I would not return. My room was very dated, with aging and marked furniture. There were no power points near the bed, the usb near the desk was not working, the bedside lights were very dim making it impossible to read in bed, the tv (not a smart tv, but older model) froze continually and had to be switched off and on again and the hairdryer was cheap and not powerful. All in all rather dismal. It is seriously time for a renovation/update to the rooms. They also refused allow me to check out even an hour late - as I was leaving for a late afternoon flight I wanted a bit of extra time - which I appreciate can sometimes be an issue, but my request was refused point blank by the desk staff. To be blunt, not worth the cost (it is not cheap), and having stayed elsewhere the previous year, there are better options than the Queen Victoria.

"Un séjour idéal je recommande fortement et j’y retournerai avec grand plaisir"

Hôtel très agréable très clair avec de belles chambres ( nous avions 2 chambres ) spacieuses et parfaitement équipées . Salle de bain idéale. En plus l’hôtel est parfaitement placé près du shopping mall et des restaurants du water front

"Great hotel in great location"

10.0

My husband and I have just returned to the UK after five nights at the Queen Victoria. When we arrived we were greeted by Nela who showed us around our room and in fact the whole hotel. She continued to assist us our whole stay; a lovely vibrant and helpful person. The hotel is quite modern and well located, took us a few minutes to get to the waterfront. The pool in the grounds of the Dock House was really spacious with the comfiest sun beds and a really good lunch menu. The staff here were attentive and looked after us well. Breakfast had a good selection and the view from the breakfast/terranium was amazing. Nela informed us that we could have breakfast at the Victoria and Albert but we didn’t this time. All the staff here deserve a mention but it’s difficult to remember everyone. Although Oswell at the front of the hotel was charming and again like the other staff here very helpful. Such a great stay and hope to return next year. Susan and David x

"Great location"

8.0

The hotel is in a good location, not far from the centre but far enough not to hear the noise of the drums, music and locals singing!! You have use of a swimming paddling area and sunbathing on very comfortable beds. You can share the facilities of The Victoria and Albert hotel which is 5 minutes away. Breakfast we think is much better there. Lovely view of the harbour and much more choice on the buffet front. Didn’t like the choice on the dinner menu at The Victoria but there’s so much choice only 5 minutes away that it wasn’t an issue. Very difficult to get enough tea bags in the room. Would bring our own next time. Definitely recommend the hop on/ off bus. Great way to get around and see things. People talk about long queues for the cable car up to Table Mountain. We were advised to get there first and assess the queue. If it’s long then buy your fast track then (costs twice as much). When we got there about 2pm the queue was about 10-15 minutes which didn’t warrant fast track. Prefer Victoria to the Victoria and Albert but that’s down to noise preference!
