"The Mill House Inn"

10.0

Found this gem on the internet for one night of a tour of the Southwest. Sensibly restored old mill retaining so much of the original character. Comfortable well-equipped rooms and lovely food served by friendly people.

"Comfortable stay in a great location"

10.0

Had a lovely stay at the Mill House. e booked for two days but decided to add on another two nights. Our double room was small but comfortable. Staff were welcoming and helpful. We ate here every evening too and the food as great. Breakfasts were lovely. I'd definitely stay again!

"Tired, Neglected, Tatty, Unloved "

2.0

My partner and I stayed for one night with our dog, Lizzie. We were booked into the attached self-contained cottage and we're looking forward to a comfortable stay. On arrival the owner advised that dogs were not allowed in the cottage (this was not mentioned on thehotels.com website, which stated ‘dog friendly’). We made the owner aware of this who reluctantly acknowledge the situation, grabbed the key and lead us to the cottage. The cottage is on 2 levels, was a hot day and none of the windows had been opened ahead of time and was extremely over heated, smelt stuffy and was unclean in many areas. The wooden blinds on the window were damaged, the two seater small sofa was a second hand item covered by a dark coloured tatty throw. The refrigerator in the room was old and made a loud buzzing sound. The television was small, bottom end wall mounted. Downstairs into the bedroom was a cooler but damp smell, un-ventilated space, with all windows closed. The carpet was dark blue low quality, aged. An electric portable radiator, very old, illuminated the room with a spark every time the thermostat clicked. The bathroom window recessed into a deep wall, unreachable to open it. The towel rail was running flat out hot, with a broken thermostatic valve meaning it could not be shut off. Everything about this cottage was low quality, tired, neglected, but rented out at £200 per night. The hotel screamed lack of maintenance, what is tatty, unloved and in need of repairs everywhere.

Mill House Inn is an exceptional place to stay. It is beautifully situated in a valley area with a short walk to the magnificence of the Trebarwith Strand beach area. The lodging is very comfortable, everything you need, and with food that is WAY above the pay level and definitely way above what you expect at a B&B. We would happily stay again and for much longer. Lovingly attended to by staff at every turn.

Staff v friendly and food lovely, couldnt fault those. Room dirty, full of dust, filthy around the sink taps and where the tea/coffee were placed. Kettle and cups had to be cleaned by ourselves. Asked for room to be cleaned the next day. Duvet cover just thrown back over bed, toilet not flushed again after we'd left it and towels not changed as no mention to leave them on the floor to change. Table lamps and headboard thick full of dusk and could do with new carpets. Nothing like the pictures on the website. Just needs a thorough clean.

"In need of redecoration and thorough cleaning"

4.0

The positives: The hotel is in a delightful location with peaceful surroundings. The breakfasts were amazing - high quality and well presented. The negatives: We paid for a superior room, but there is little superiority about room 5 - it is above the bar/entertainment room and gets very noisy until after 11pm. The bed was clean, however parts of the room had not been cleaned properly for months (see example picture) - the dust was present on picture frames, dresser mirror, light fittings, to name but a few. The bathroom had been repainted, but someone forgot the door which had peeling paint on the lower half plus the silicone sealant around bath and basin was well past its glory days. The carpet in the room needs replacing or a thorough clean. The stairways and halls are desperately in need of a complete overhaul, the carpet is filthy and the walls dirty. The common areas downstairs including the reception and bar had lovely flagstone floors but they need a deep clean. In summary: It is an old building and one expects quirks, which is lovely, but the cleanliness standards and general state of the décor is not up to the specification one expects for just under £90
