JW Marriott Hotel Ankara

From the moment we arrived at the hotel, we were warmly welcomed, and everything seemed to be going perfectly at first. The room was clean and comfortable. However, we were genuinely disappointed to find that the minibar was not complimentary. After paying 14,000 TL for the room, it felt disheartening that such services weren’t included. Since we had forgotten our phone cable in the car, we requested an iPhone charger. The charger that was sent to us turned out to be a fake, and it didn’t work at all. Because it was late at night, we only realized the issue in the morning and informed the reception. Charging us 600 TL for using a 5W fake charger was shocking. At the very least, we should have been told it wasn’t an original product. Additionally, we noticed that there were no alcoholic beverages in our minibar. We only realized this when the front desk asked if we had used anything from the minibar. When we inquired, the staff told us that the alcohol was removed from the minibar for the next guest. That explanation surprised us, as we would have expected alcoholic options to be available in our room during our stay. This was our first time staying at a Marriott, and having so many issues pile up left us quite disappointed. Unfortunately, these experiences took away from what could have been a truly pleasant stay.

Can’t fault the property at all

We stayed for 2 nights from June 3-5. The grand lobby and large room size was a promising start but that's where the positives ended. The room we were initially given had a very noisy air-con. When we reported, they sent a couple of technicians who failed to resolve the problem. So the hotel agreed to move us to another room. No air-con noise problem in the new room but then a stream of irritations began. The bath towels were thin and rough - never encountered towels like these in a 5-star hotel before! Although it was obvious that there were 2 occupants, the room only provided 1 pair of slippers. (this was true even for the first room) . Our TV did not work at all. Housekeeping was abysmal - did not refill tissue paper, did not refill bath salts, skipped turn down services, cleaning was not up to the usual Marriot standard, etc. I took care to give reception my Gold Elite member number but they appear to have simply ignored it. There were none of the courtesies that are normally extended to members of this tier. A courtesy fruit basket did appear but was only delivered the night before we checked out! (and it contained an apple with a large worm hole!) Most of the staff at breakfast were generally grumpy and uninterested. We have stayed in so many Marriott group hotels around the world, so we know what standards to expect. This Ankara hotel is the worst Marriott group hotel we've ever stayed in.

The hotel was in a mess, staff cluless, unattentive and rooms average- i had executive suite which came as an upgrade because i am an elite member but the experience was pure harrassment. First they ignored my clear request to not put me in a connecting room, then the AC was heating instead of cooling, called the operator and it was fixed suddenly. Phones didn't work after that, I used my roaming mobile to call the operator but they didn't help in ordering my food either. U cannot call anyone to order food or for anything other than fitness and spa, go through the operator who may decide to ignore ur calls which is what they did to me. Eventually, i couldnt get any food, their online ordering also didn't work, and am going to sleep hungry coz i have no energy to step out. Also, please b v careful, their staff entered my room without my permission to place something, i didnt ask for it, it was not needed but they decided to open the door and keep it witthout any communication. The worst marriot experience ever in 16 years of travelling across the world. They need to upgrade the staff and coach their people.
