Excellent hotel located right by the Tonlesap/Mekong with a nice view of the city skyline especially at night. Step right onto the river walkway at the back of the hotel and enjoy a scenic walk at sunrise or sunset. A sunset dinner river cruise service is conveniently located right outside the hotel. The hotel is within walking distance to the royal palace and museum. It is just 8 minutes' drive to the new Aeon Shopping Mall. Check in was smooth and seamless. The upgraded suite was bright and spacious with a king size bed. It has a balcony with a view of the river. A family-friendly hotel with pool and playground. Breakfast has a nice selection of Western and Eastern foods with the usual egg station. Singaporean owned, the hotel had the Singapore flag flying high during the National Day weekend in August and hosted the Singapore Cambodia Club National Day celebrations in its Sunflower Ballroom and Garden. Grab taxi is readily available from hotel. It is USD10 to the airport. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. A well-managed hotel.

No sauna in the room as advertised but a bathtub. There was also an unwelcomed creepy crawly in the room on the first night, but promptly dealt with.

Location of the property is very good near the beach. All the staff were very co-operative and helping with regards to information about the city.

As i am pure vegetarian there was option for breakfast except for the bread and butter which was really upsetting. I request to atleast keep 2-3 items for vegetarian guest when they request.

This was our first stop on our trip to Cambodia, stayed 3 nights and found it an excellent base for sightseeing. Located by the Mekong it was great to just walk out of the hotel and be directly on the river walkway. Our room was very spacious, bright and spotlessly clean. Staff were very welcoming and breakfast was excellent, lots of choices. We really enjoyed relaxing by the swimming pool after sightseeing, it was a real bonus to have the pool. Whilst we there we did a sunset cruise which was booked through the hotel, the boat departed just a few minutes walk away and very convenient. The only reason I have given it 4 stars is because we were on the 1st floor and very near the main road which is constantly busy with traffic - I did find it far too noisy. If you don't like traffic noise I would suggest you have a river view or a room away from the road. A highlight on our last morning was to see about six Great Hornbills ascend on the hotel - one next to our balcony, they only stayed briefly but it was an amazing sight.

Staff and property fantastic

I have reviewed the Himawari perhaps too often by now, and I was last there five months before the current review. But while this stay was lovely again (and the whirlpool nicely warm again), I have to specifically mention this: When checking out and moving to Siem Reap for a weekend, I actuallty forgot two credit cards in the safe (they were in a new dark envelope; totally my mistake). The staff found them, reception contacted me on WhatsApp immediately, and we agreed on having them couriered (that's really cheap and easy in Cambodia - they arranged it, I paid ofc) to my SR hotel. It worked brilliantly, and they notified me both of the sending and asked for good arrival. This is not a situation I would like to experience in a lot of places (credit cards and their data are valuable on the black market), but indeed all worked and there never was, needless to say for the Himawari, any glitch with the bank info. So, thank you for the great and safe service on all levels, and that really shows how safe a haven in PP and Cambodia and SEA the Himawari is!

This review is for two stays, 15 to 18 Feb 2024 and 22 Feb to 6 March 2024. I forget how many times I have stayed at the Himawari in Phnom Penh, but it is a lot over the years. It is my favourite hotel to stay in whenever I have travelled. Lovely large clean rooms, very caring and kind staff, very quiet, and such a good location. Excellent pool and gym as well. Staff have always gone out of their way to make a memorable experience. One side of the hotel opens onto the walkway along the Mekong River, the other opens to a major road, so getting to and from the Himawari is always safe and fast.
