Wonderful experience. But you must be willing to do things in Japanese style (sleeping on futons and sitting on pillows on top of tatami mats). We included breakfast and dinner with our booking and are really glad we did. The food was fabulous, the people were very friendly and helpful.

The staff is super friendly and the dinners are just fantastic. Breakfast is ok. But the rooms really need an upgrade. The rooms smell badly, the bathroom is full of mold, the air-condition needs a clean ... etc. Very nice garden, central location but regarding cleanliness below standard, unfortunately.

I am so thrilled I stayed here. The staff was very polite and kind. The service was top notch A ryokan is a different experience. If you don’t want experience the culture stay in a chain hotel. I was a little taken aback when I first entered the room, but after having tea served traditionally to me in the room I was converted. It is spartan, but I found it extraordinarily relaxing. I was nervous about sleeping on the futon (I’m not a fan of camping) but surprised to find it very comfortable. I had a great night’s sleep. The hotel is 400 years old and is still in the same family. The location is in the heart of the Gion, one of the oldest parts of Kyoto. I was able to see a number of geishas and maiko. The tea ceremony alone makes it worth the stay. But is you are a westerner who does not want to learn about the very rich culture and experience a bit of it you can always stay at a Hilton and eat at the Hard Rock Cafe.

A small, traditional Japanese inn in the Gion (geisha/geiko) district of Kyoto. The hosts are extremely friendly and accommodating and are very willing to do their best to make your stay comfortable. The food is kaseki cuisine, and is delicious (if you are ok with seafood, but they do have western breakfast options). Our room had an amazing view of the rooftops of Kyoto, and it was wonderful to watch the sun move across them. The garden is beautiful to either sit in or just view, and the tea house and ceremony is an experience not to be missed. If you want a true Japanese experience, this is the place to stay.

We took this as an additional night on our trip to JApan, what a night, traditional japanese food, sleeping on futons, breakafst in the room on little japanese tables, a must whilst visisting Kyoto. Dress for dinner in Kimonos.

Amazing stay. We went with traditional Japanese room and it’s was beautiful and quiet. The staff were so lovely and helpful. So many beautiful cherry blossoms about too. Handy walking distance to the subway and trains.

We traveled to Kyota for a long weekend since I had business in Tokyo. This Ryokan was recommended by friends in Seattle and it not disappoint. It is very traditional and the service was wonderful. The food in the AM and evening was wonderful and the tea service was an incredible experience. I meditated in the interior garden every morning. I look forward to returning.

We had a fantastic stay at gion yoshi ima for 6 nights. The ryokan was absolutely incredible and the staff were absolutely amazing. Location was great. Nothing was a hassle, we were treated so kindly would recommend this stay without question!

I have been, just one night in this hotel with my daughter during a business trip. We had a great experience. It is a very quite location to stay. 100% Japanese Family style with a great service. The most spectacular experience was the dinner in the room. I suggest to everybody to make it. The food was excellent and the service too. One of the best experience I had in my looooong travel experience in the world. Thanks to the family.

Fabulous Ryokan. Truly gives the Japanese culture experience. Great location in Gion. Highly recommend to stay here when visiting Kyoto
