"Quaint ryokan in geisha district"

10.0

This place is amazing. All the rooms are situated around a garden and tea house. The garden is beautiful and incredibly soothing to view. All the rooms are situated with a garden view from what I could see. The staff is extremely helpful and will recommend places for you to eat and things to do. The food was fabulous, a typical multi course meal with mostly veg and small amounts of fish. They have a family bath that you can schedule time to use if you wish. We also managed to see a geisha walking down the street when we were checking out. My only regret—booking just one night!!

"You have to live the experience .. if your budget allows it"

10.0

The experience of a life time for occidentals, away from the usual holels. Obviously this is not only a place where to sleep. Obviously not for every one. The outstanding level of service is unique and attention to guests exceptional. Futons and buckweath pillows are quite comfortable. The garden rooms provide vety good vale. To appreciate dinner and breakfast you have to be ready for some adventure and not be te conservatice stak and potates type. Obviously sptless and very clean. Nn smoking rooms available. Convenient location close to subway

"Yoshi-Ima Roykan in Kyoto is a peaceful respite"

10.0

THe location near to the Gion region and the subway and train stations (not JR Kyoto) make if a great base for touring Kyoto - best done on foot, so as to better see all the beautiful temples and intresting shops - that are happy to welcome visitors, even if the language is only Japanese.

"Delightful Yoshiima"

10.0

We loved our stay at Yoshiima. It provided a wonderful traditional Japanese style accommodation experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms, bathrooms and private garden were delightful. The Ryokan was also situated in a fabulous location of Kyoto. It enhanced our Kyoto experience.

"antique shopping"

6.0

The Inn (Gion) was an experience.. It is a nice, quite place in an active night area. We were older guests, who were a bit surprised by the lack of grab bars for a very deep tub in the bathroom, and raised thresholds, a bit of a hazard for midnight visits to the WC. Futon sleeping and low chair sitting does not lend itself for aging western bodies. Our error in booking more than one night. Very nice staff with sense of humor. I would stay in area once more, but would rather stay in a modern facility where after a long days exploration one could sink into a comfortable chair or bed to recuperate. It is a nice place to stay but older guests should be made aware that more than one night is not advised if comfort is desired.
