The Mountaineer Inn

The room is nice, for the price. Bed was comfortable and there is a wooden “screen” door that provides privacy but allows air (but bugs, too 😢). I did not like that I couldn’t control the temperature of my room, the shower is extremely small and needs updated!

This place is terrific. Friendly staff, nice room, good location and lots of parking. I would go back again for sure.

We took our pets and the staff volunteered to check in on them while we were away. (The pets didn't need it)

An Asheville landmark, this is a historic motel with a huge kitch sign depicting a "hillbilly." It's a relic of the past making it an interesting place to stay. The motel still retains some of the old atmosphere of a 1950s motel; you even say hello to your neighbors and might get into a conversation with them. The lawn and trees are nice. It's not fancy and isn't for people looking for slick modern accommodations; go to the Holiday Inn or Best Western for that. I wished they'd dim the lights along the porch at night; even with the room darkening drapes, the florescent light glares into the rooms.

This property is older but lovely. Please do not compare it to a chain hotel/ motel. I’ve been doing road trips on Route 66 and staying at these iconic motor courts. I was lucky to find this gem near Asheville. Please read that there is a deposit hold of $100. Cash or credit card. Some reviewers made negative comments. It clearly states the deposit requirement. Staff was super kind and personable. Location is walkable to restaurants , ABC liquor etc. I recommend staying here if you want to experience a part of history.

Enjoyed the stay

Very attentive staff. Very, very convenient. Clean and clear pool. Showing its age but doing so gracefully. If you are looking for a five star hotel, pass it by. If you're looking for excellent value for your money, this may well be the spot for you.

Let me get this out of the way first, if you are looking for a fancy hotel and bougie, this isn’t the place for you. However, it could be if you come with realistic expectations. I hate to admit it, but I fall into the fancy hotel type. I have been driving by the Mountaineer Inn for twenty years and have always been intrigued by the cool neon sign. I was traveling through Asheville for the night and finally pulled the trigger. For $80.00, I’m not sure I could have had a better experience. I felt safe and welcomed. Rachel who worked the night shift was very helpful on the phone and in person. This place was very big on safety and I felt safe staying here. I can’t say that a lot about value price hotels. The room was fine. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Nothing special but it worked. Their pool looks very clean and makes you want to go for a swim. I think the Mountaineer would be best for two types of travelers, the stop to spend the night traveler and the individual looking for a value place to stay to check out Asheville. It is just off the exit and has all the interstate exit stuff that you need within a two minute drive. I am estimating that it is about ten minutes from the downtown area. Support local business and give the corporate hotel chain a night off.
