"Don't expect an early night"

4.0

Honestly this review frustrates me to write. The hotel is fabulous in so many ways, except for the noise at night. For a hotel that states on booking.com that there are quiet hours between 9pm and 11am, and only has 10 rooms, it is incredibly noisy until midnight. This is not outside street noise that can be expected in a medina. We have stayed in 3 others on our trip. The noise is all cleared inside the riad. Noise comes from patrons of the restaurant on the top floor traipsing down the stairs, past our door. People talking in the library on the other side of the wall to our room. Staff playing music in the lobby (and strumming a guitar as well tonight) that travels straight up the internal courtyard to rooms. Staff removing rubbish from the restaurant when it closes. This is not a quiet hotel and for this reason, if you are in any way, someone who wants to sleep before midnight, don't book here. We did complain after last night, we were assured it was a one-off. It wasn't. We have two more nights of this to go I imagine. If we hadn't prepaid I would pack tomorrow and leave. This issue does such a disservice to the riad itself. It is lovely. It is in a great location and has an amazing hammam. The rooms are comfortable (but clearly not noise insulated in any way), well appointed, (though you get a kettle, but no tea, a coffee pod machine, but only 2 pods for your stay - we asked today and were told they are only given for your first night. This is a $400 a night hotel!). The AC works to heat and cool. The bed is comfortable. I just don't understand why they ruin all this, by not caring about the noise! If they want to be a noisy hotel, that's their prerogative, but don't advertise quiet hours that are not enforced or respected!

"A disaster"

2.0

We had a really disappointing experience at this coffee. The waiter didn’t inform us about anything and didn’t want to help at all. There was too much sun, and even when we told him we preferred to sit in the shade, he refused to do anything about it. The staff in general were not nice, and the service felt careless and unfriendly. Definitely not a place I would recommend.

"A real gem that I’m so glad I found"

10.0

Absolutely beautiful place to stay! The traditional decor and soft calm ambiance just completed our stay in the old Medina. Perfect distance from the souks and bazaars. Very lovely staff who genuinely wanted us to have a great stay. Very comfortable room which felt like a real haven after a busy day walking around

"Charming personalized stay"

10.0

We loved the peaceful charming road w/such personalized service. Noura called prior to our arrival to arrange transportation and help finding the riad once taxi dropped us just outside Medina wall. We were able to have a hamman ( scrub) and masssge at the riad. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. They arranged a guide for us to tour the Medina, etc. overall wonderful and would stay here again.

"Modern and nice"

8.0

This is a modern hotel designed in a riad style within the old medina. The staff is very very helpful and friendly and they can provide any sort of service you might need. The decoration in the common areas is beautiful, moroccan and modern. It is located in the residential area of the medina and within walking distance to the main attractions. The rooms have everything you need and are comfortable, but in my opinion they are a bit 'suffocated' since they do not have windows towards the outside, only towards the inside patio and that could make you feel a bit exposed. Also, there is no lift, so you have to use the stairs but it is only 4 stories tall. Please note that Tangier's medina is hilly, so you have to go up and down all the time and this applies to your way towards the hotel.

"Racist Riad "

4.0

I had friends visiting Morocco for the first time and we wanted them to experience an authentic Moroccan riad. After reading the stellar reviews from other guests, I booked our stay Dar Chams thinking we hit the jackpot. In my confirmation email from hotels.com I was told we would “pay at the property”. Once we arrived we were greeted by a welcoming hostess who took our information including my husband's ID. We were never asked to pay, so we assumed all was well. We did some touring and had a late dinner before coming back to the hotel around 1 am. Mind you, Tangiers is a night city. Once the guard opened the door to the riad, he allowed me and my two American friends (all white) to enter without hesitation, but when he saw my Moroccan husband, he gave him a little push on the shoulder telling him he hadn't paid for this room. He insisted that the hostess took down our information and we all had a right to be at the hotel, but the guard still refused to let him enter threatening to call the police. I further insisted that if there was a problem with payment the guard should be talking directly to me. When we called the manager he gave a pretty empty apology making the excuse that, “many guests had tried to avoid paying their bills by jumping out the window". I don't have space to go into the entire absurd story. In brief, my Moroccan husband was a victim of severe racism and did not receive the proper apology from the manager or guard who accosted him. Sadly, one star.

"Lovely hotel in the heart of the old medina."

10.0

We stayed 3 days at Dar Chams Tanja. The hotel is lovely and in the heart of the old city. Our room was clean, spacious with a nice bathroom. The breakfast was good. The best part of Dar Chams is Nora and her staff! They are all so kind and helpful. For first time visit to Tangier, they made us feel so welcome. If you want to stay in the old Medina, stay here.

"Exceptional"

10.0

We had a wonderful stay at Dar Chams Tanja - the place was beautiful, the room comfortable, the staff wonderful and very helpful, especially Noura who helped us by organizing excursions and recommending places to visit / things to do / restaurants to eat at. The casbah and medina are right at the doorstep.
