A friendly pub for a quick drink before catching the train. Served quickly and the beers were good and cold. Nice well kept pub with a few locals that we got chatting too. It looked well run and clean and we enjoyed a few hours here. The accommodation we can’t comment on.

We booked a Friday night at the Bosuns Chair to attend the seafood festival, which is only about a 10-minute walk away – part of it a lovely stroll along the waterfront. I’ll admit, on first approach, I was a bit worried. Bosuns Chair doesn’t exactly jump out at you from the street, although it’s right across from the train station, which is definitely handy to know. However, the moment we turned into the gravelled car park at the back, I started to relax. Big trees, a small but tidy parking area, and to the left, an inviting outdoor beer garden with both shaded and open seating, plus a small area leading straight into the bar. Plenty of tables, TV screens, and everything well-maintained – it looked great and felt very pleasant. Check-in was smooth, and we were even allowed to check in about an hour early, which we really appreciated. We stayed in Room 8 on the top floor (around three flights of stairs – no lift, so pack light or consider it a bonus cardio session). But oh my word, what a beautiful room! Absolutely loved it. Every detail was thought through, right down to the lovely selection of products in the bathroom. We loved it so much we’ve already booked it again for 2026. Breakfast was fantastic. Great selection, and we both ordered the eggs royale, which were delicious. But the real highlight? The customer service. From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out, we felt genuinely welcomed. The team here truly makes this place shine – they’re friendly, professional, and clearly care about their business and their guests. Bosuns Chair is truly a hidden gem in a beautiful little town. We highly recommend it – it’s simply outstanding, and we can’t wait to return in 2026!

Nice pub with very friendly staff , I was staying for one night and unfortunately was allocated room 3 . This a very small single room with a giant extraction fan outside the window, this burst into life around 6.30am and as it was hot I had to have my window open which also resulted in being bitten to death by mosquitoes. I’m sure other rooms are better but room 3 is a room from hell. One consolation was breakfast was very good

Rapid early check in to drop bags and collect key as attending wedding nearby. Clean, large room. Very comfy bed. Only downside was very hot room but fan was provided.

We stayed for two nights here and first of all the staff were super friendly to a man.Parking is good and the rooms are of a good quality.(i would say ask for a room at the back as ours was over the bar and the music was loud)Breakfast was good and they even asked how i wanted my scrambled eggs cooked.We stayed in six hotels on this journey and these were the best scrambled eggs.Our meal at night with the family was adequate but the menu was different than the one on the web site and our room,really the only negative in our stay and i would recommend.

Great located hotel close to the railway station amd town centre. Breakfast was 1st class. Great pub. Rooms clean and tidy although the kitchen extractor ynit was directly outside my window.

Friendly staff. Room had everything we needed. Everywhere very clean. Super breakfast. Couldn’t fault it. It was our second time of staying the night before going on the ferry Very conveniently situated for us as 2 minutes from the station.
