Staff was attentive. Food as part of stay was novel and adapted to preference.

Establishment provided almost no luxury for the price. Beds and pillows were uncomfortable. No massage or services outside of low quality onsen were included. Onsen were only public and open air onsen was across the street in entirely different building. Onsens themselves were outdated and poor quality, especially relative to other hotels in area that cose a 1/4th of the price. Upgraded rooms had visible mold over ventilation. And reeked of mildew. Incredibly disgusting and outrageous for nearly 1000usd a night.

Breakfast and dinner were unbelievable. Service far exceeded expectations.

Beautiful rooms. We stayed in top floor suites and they were fabulous. Staff always there to go the extra mile. Okami the landlady and owner was wonderful and she and her staff constantly were there to support every need. Food superb

An exceptional 5* Japanese ryokan. It's more than a hotel; it's an experience. From the elaborate greeting, to having your shoes stored and retrieved on demand at the entryway, very friendly staff (There are 70 staff for 27 rooms if I remember right!), to the immaculate suite we stayed that exceeded nearly every other luxury hotel room we've ever stayed in. We stayed as a group of friends very comfortably with two people in the very comfy beds, and others on futons on the tatami mat. The futons were set up and stored every day by the staff during breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was outstanding in a private room. The kaiseki dinner (which you need to pay extra and reserve ahead of time!!) was expensive but well worth it for the experience, quantity and quality. As we were in a large group of friends, it was held in a large private room on F2 that made us feel like Japanese royalty. The onsen in the building is pretty good but you need to walk 50m to the sister-hotel in the same block to access the rooftop outdoor onsen which was outstanding. If onsen is your main priority, I would consider booking the sister-hotel ahead of this one. Nothing like standing free after a hot bath looking out over the city. Please be reassured that all the staff speak conversational basic English and all information is provided in English. It is a very foreigner friendly ryokan. It is an excellent choice if you are unsure of the customs and expectations.

Tattoos are forbidden in the onsen, but if you can cover them up with something like a band-aid you'll be fine. For larger arm tattoos, there's special skin covers you can buy online or in the megamarts in big towns.

Excellent Location and beautiful rooms. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Great place to stay while in Takayama. We highly recommend this property.

La struttura é magnifica, un ryokan pazzesco, bellissimo, pulitissimo, tutto curato nei minimi dettagli. Lo staff ci è venuto a prendere alla stazione dei bus con l’auto e ci ha portati nel ryokan. Sin da subito siamo stato coccolati, ci han fatto togliere le scarpe, ci hanno dato le ciabattine e ci hanno portato in camera dove come benvenuto ci hanno offerto il mochi di riso con fagioli rossi accompagnato dal te macha. La stanza era meravigliosa, con tatami e tavolino giapponese al centro. Abbiamo deciso di cenare nel ryokan e abbiamo fatto una scelta ottima. Cena abbondante e buonissima, con servizio impeccabile, staff di una gentilezza strabiliante. Essendo la nostra luna di miele ci hanno dato un biglietto ed un regalo. Inoltre ci hanno scattato una foto che ci hanno regalato la mattina seguente, ero commossa da cosi tanta cura e gentilezza. Mentre cenavamo ci hanno preparato la stanza con i futon per dormire la notte Siamo poi stati nelle onsen del ryokan, anche queste bellissime. Al risveglio siamo andati a fare colazione (abbiamo scelto quella continentale che prevedeva succo, frutta fresca, yogurt, pane burro e marmellata, caffe). Estremamente buona e molto curata, come ogni angolo di questo ryokan. Se dovessi tornare a takayama ci torneremmo sicuramente. È stato meraviglioso. Grazie mille!
