"Onsen with private bath"

8.0

It's located near hillside and connected to another property, beautiful view of the hill from there. We are served with tea and some snack during our arrival, while waiting to get into a Japanese room that I reserved. There is a small souvenir shop in the property too. Staff can speak some English but they are trying their best to serve us. If you are shy person like me then you might want to reserve the private bath-3 options to choose from for about 2500yen for 40 minutes. I did went for the open bath as well at early morning about 6am when there were only 1-2 ladies in. Take note each person staying will be charged bath fee. Buffet dinner+buffet breakfast was one of the cheapest meal option but we were satisfied with the different types of food served! Our room is a Japanese room and you can change into Japanese robes that were provided. Getting there: Most easiest way is ride on highway bus from Osaka or shin-Osaka stations, more frequent in Osaka station. Alternatively you can also get to JR Ashiya station, then get on local bus no 80 to Arima Onsen, this bus will travel through Mt Rokko so you get to see different view. However this bus is less frequent on weekday, once in 2 hours if I m not mistaken. Take note that the local bus stop at the train station but the highway bus stop at the bus station, they are not far from each other.

"Amazing food, comfortable room and good onsen"

10.0

Location We took a bus from hankyu umeda station in Osaka and arrived there in an hour. A small beautiful town to explore, a lot of uphill walk but it was good to walk after lunch. Ryokan is about 10 mins walk from the bus station Room We booked a Japanese room which was a nice experience. Room close to the river where you can relaxed with the window open. Nice and clean and tidy Onsen 3 different onzen in the ryokan. Tried 2 of them and it was a really nice experiences. My son has skin allergy but it was still good for him to go in the onsen. Outdoor onsen was a lot better than indoor with cool air breeze. Food Amazing....we booked with kaiseki dinner. Fantastic experince and service, kobe beef, fresh sashimi, good assorted tempura. Breakfast served in the room with similar setup. Fantastic place to relaxed and stay away from busy city for a weekend trip. It might be a little expensive but definitely worth every dollar.

"Great room, great food, great location"

10.0

Stayed for only 1 night in this ryokan. The ryokan is quite big. We stayed in Japanese Western room with open air bath. The good: The best part about this place for us was the food. We had a Kobe beef sukiyaki. It was the best beef we had ever had. They also served very delicious sushi and other appetizers. The portion of the beef was huge, we could not finish the meal. The food was served in our room. The location is very nice. The hotel is situated alongside the river. However, it is not close to Arima town center. But the distance is manageable. The room is located near the river. We could soak into the outdoor onsen while relaxing and listening to the sound of river water. The room was very big and cleaned. There were 4 areas in the room: a living room with massage chair, a tatami room (we ate here), a bedroom with western beds, a bathroom with toilet, shower and private onsen. The bad: The service was average. There were times when the waitress went missing over 30 minutes. Although we were greeted upon our arrival, we didn't feel very welcomed. There was a big language barrier. It was very difficult to communicate. On top of that, the staffs didn't try that much to communicate with us. Conclusion: Although there were service and language problems, we had a pleasant stay. We had one regret. We could have stayed for more than 1 night.

"Not an honest hotel, staff are rude."

6.0

Hotel is old, a bit worn out but acceptable. Staff are rude and no one can communicate in English. I booked half board (hotspring dinner and breakfast) for 3 adults and 2 kids under 5 when I made booking. When dinner was served at our room, there's nothing for the 2 kids. I raised my request in the reception, the lady said meals for children are excluded. I argued it's a package for all guests staying here, and there's no special conditions staying meals are not included for kids in the voucher or anywhere when I made the booking. Then the lady said the hotel didn't charge room rate for the 2 kids. I was super made, I searched the hotel with my phone at hotels.com instantly, I showed the lady the price are different with a combination of “3 adults only” and “3 adults + 3 children”. I questioned her and asked her to explain why prices are divergent if the hotel won't charge for kids. She had no words but said ok ok. I never encountered such a rude and deceived Japanese people and service in my more than 10 times’ visit to Japan. I strongly recommend you NOT to stay with them.
