Hotel Spinne

This was our first time in Switzerland and we chose Grindelwald for a Christmas Holiday. The hotel is cosy with alpine rooms and a perfect location in the center of the town right next to a bus stop and near the gondola station. It was also a plus that we got a visitors card for free bus travel (can use this for a discount for Grindelwald first as well). We paid extra for an Eiger view with balcony and it was worth every penny. The rooms were clean and ours was spacious, we had robes and slippers for the spa and used all amenities. The pool was great and so were the other facilities, we used them all. The breakfast had everything we needed and was fresh every morning. The hotel restaurant really surprised us, the food was amazing and we ate there 3 times in the week we stayed including Christmas day. The restaurant staff were all very friendly and took great care of us. If returning to Grindelwald then I would 100% book Hotel Spinne.

We had a lovely room with a view of the eiger. Breakfast was terrific. We ate dinners at the hotel restaurant several times; the food was very good, tho service was slow at times. To be fair, we were a large group of 9 adults and 2 toddlers. The location of the hotel was perfect-centrally located, close to cable car/ train station. Reception could have been more helpful with directions-we made some mistakes and wasted time. There was a small but well stocked migros ( grocery store) across the street. We were able to get sandwiches to take away. Excellent stay!

I stayed in a solo room with an Eiger view. The view was lovely. The room was ok, big enough but awkwardly laid out. The bed was like a US size twin, which was fine (but just in comparison, I went on to stay in a single room in my next city stop in Switzerland that was nearly big enough for two), and comfortable enough, but there were holes in the sheets and the single pillow was very bad, with no support to it at all. The bathroom was ultra tiny, barely enough room to move in. With the door closed, you couldn't change clothes, and you had to kind of slide sideways around the sink to get into the shower. Worst of all, there's a sewage smell from the toilet, even with the toilet cover closed and the bathroom door closed. Faint, but there. This got progressively worse over my stay, as though it wasn't being cleaned well enough each day. Housekeeping left a dirty tea mug and knocked my eye mask on the floor and left it there. Breakfast was average, with ok scrambled eggs (likely made with cream though), and fairly fresh bread. Hot water was barely hot enough for a proper cup of tea. You could also get an omelet made to order but I preferred not to wait. Views of Eiger in the breakfast room are, of course, stunning. Service was generally friendly although I was chastised once at breakfast for taking plates from the "wrong" place (though I'd had no instruction that would have ever let me know what the right place was before then). The room was also quite hot and stuffy and could only be cooled by leaving the screen-less windows open; I basically left both of them open the entire time I was in the room, including for sleeping. Overall it was okay for the money, not a super expensive hotel in a generally expensive location, and well located close enough to the train station, but I would probably look for another place to base next time in Grindelwald.

We love staying in this hotel, we enjoy the amazing view from our balcony and the amenities they offer like wellness spa, infinity pool you can enjoy the view of Mt. Eiger
