Hotel Atwater

Overall, it is quite nice and comfortable But, we'll be staying elsewhere on our next visit. We went just before the marathon, which my wife ran. Our boat back to LA was that afternoon. Many people every year must be in a similar situation. Of course, she wanted to take a shower and change clothes after the marahon. But no, the 11:00 check out time is sacred.. No exceptions. She has run 97 marathons all over the world, and many hotels bend over backward to cater to marathon guests. Not the Atwater. Like in many hotels, in the shower are three squirt bottles. But all look identical. Without glasses, I couldn't even see that there was text for shampoo vs. body wash. With glasses on, it took effort. Tiny font with no contrast. Someone chose these. Someone installed them. Someone refills them. Housekeepers clean. Did no one notice that the three look identical? Are there no feedback loops in the management system? Of course this is super minor, but I wonder what else they are overlooking.

Excellent location, just a minute walk from the waterfront. It was easy to access everything, and the hotel was in a very convenient spot for exploring Catalina Island. The hotel is also nicer than the pictures show, which was a pleasant surprise.

I originally was supposed to come to relax, reset and restart without the kiddos but things changed.

My husband and I had a suite at Hotel Atwater-room 334, I believe, and it was extremely nice. With the extra room, it was a perfect choice-the room was well appointed with great design with the primary bathroom luxurious and powder room nicely decorated. The bedroom was great, albeit small, and the pullout couch worked when there was snoring. Only recommendation I have is that the rug and couch could use a clean but not bad. The hotel is centrally located and got a large cappuccino at the little bistro in the hotel itself and walked to some good breakfast places as well as to dinner and all of the tours that we took. Highly recommend if you want to be in the thick of things but not right on the main drag.

The rooms were reminiscent of the old days but with a modern feel.

We stayed for three nights, the room was small but equipped with everything needed, such as a safe, mini fridge, vanity area, etc. The bed was comfortable.  The hotel was clean and well located. The hotel is walking distance to shops, restaurants and sightseeing. All staff we encountered were courteous and friendly.  We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the island.
