Esperanza Guest House

The staff are wonderful. I was unfortunately really poorly while i was there and the wonderful ladies were like my mum! I felt so cared for. The room was spotless and the bed was so comfortable. Such value for money too; this was such a relaxing, quiet place close to all the action. I felt safe and cared for as a solo female traveller and will return in a heartbeat.

I liked the style of the house, the cleanliness. The owner Mark is there to answer questions you may have, the friendly staff, they are very accommodating to your needs, or unexpected changes of my own travel plans. I LOVED the location very much, close to anything every person visiting for the first time must to see. Will definitely return.

Esperanza guest house is very nice, upscale and refined bed and breakfast in a quiet safe capetown neighborhood. Our room 5 was ground level, a large room with antique furniture. We had both a stall shower and also a clawfoot vintage bathtub. Water was very hot and plentiful. The room had no AC, but capetown climate is mild and it wasn't an issue. Breakfast was good buffet consisting of cold cuts, cheese, yogurts, breads, cereals, juices, cappuccino machine. Served plate of bacon, eggs and bangers. Parking of your rent car is on the street in front of the house. It is safe overnight, but don't leave ANYTHING inside the car. You'd be asking for trouble. It is a residential neighborhood,  there are no restaurants or shops nearby.  Plan your meals before returning home. There is a very small swim pool, about big enough for a splash, we didn't use it. I'd stay here again.  Esperanza is a good value, very inviting, and an excellent location. 

Esperanza House is located in one of the nicer, more established parts of Cape Town, on the flanks of Table Mountain. You can walk to Table Mountain - if you are in shape. The house itself is a lovely old (over 100 years!) place with nice wood floors and a lot of Old World character. Both floors have large verandas to sit and relax and look out over Cape Town below. There is also a honor bar available to help with relaxation. Quick turnaround (same day or overnight) laundry service is available which was great for us after coming off a few days at Kruger National Park. Breakfast is not fancy but quite good and varied enough that everyone should be satisfied. The staff is very friendly and quite accommodating.

Not a problem for us but travelers should be aware the stairs to the second floor are a little steep and ask for the first floor if steep stairs would be an issue. Also (again, not an issue for us) there is a somewhat busy street to one side of the house. We simply closed the bathroom door which is between the bedroom and the street and had the ceiling fan on at night. We weren’t bothered by street noise at all.

It would be great if you put fridges in the rooms

This is a one of a kind place. Close to the city, yet removed from it. Spacious, airy and light filled, the house, along with its neighbors, dates from the Cape's early 1900s heyday, and contains a nicely judged mix of period furniture and fixtures combined with local art. Relaxed, peaceful atmosphere -- I wasn't aware of traffic noise. Honesty bar filled with good wine helps one feel at home! The upstairs rooms have spectacular views of the harbor, Lions Head & and Table Mountain. Copious, robust breakfast served by the cheerful Janet and other staff.

Pool is minute, but at least there is one!
