Novotel Guiyang Downtown

What this hotel has going for it is its location in the downtown area of Guiyang. Comfortable beds (read that as not rock hard). The staff helpful and friendly when I have problems about the city review

Rooms were spacious and with big TV and bathroom, but unfortunately air conditioning was very poor so it wasn't able to lower room temperature below 25 degrees, even after we asked many time the staff intervention. The room wasn't very clean, there were hairs in the moquette and lot of dirt even just after cleaning. Morover only a part of the staff is english speaking and we had troubles in making su understand!

The accommodation is standard but the room and furniture need revitalising. Can start with new carpet. The windows desperately needed a good clean. I was in a room with a massive window and a panoramic view but through really dirty glass. Breakfast not catered for international guests. Staff not English speaking.

We had a deluxe room for a very reasonable price. The room was spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was okay. There is a newly opened restaurant which serves good regional dishes as well as western dishes (which we have not tried). There were only 2 chairs in the lounge, not a lot of sitting space. The only drawback was that the air-conditioning failed to function on a warm and humid day despite the fact that a technician was sent to the room to check. We had the same experience at another western chain hotel a few days earlier. It is possible that the hotel did not want to turn on the air-conditioning until the hot, summer season. The corridors smelled of cigarette smoke. Luckily, the room was free of odours. Overall, the stay was pleasant.

The room is okay. But the elevator on 19th floor was flooded and I had to walk from the third floor to 22nd floor. The regular and the employee elevators failed.

The Novotel is a fine hotel in Guiyang. The rooms are in great shape. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. It is close to restaurants, shopping and cinemas. It is well worth a stay.

Everything is good but sometimes the internet is very slow.

Hotel is in the heart of downtown, so depend on personal preference this could either be a plus or minus. I didn't notice too much noise from within my hotel room but outside is a lot of hustle and bustle. Taxis are difficult to flag down, they always seem to be occupied, and then once you are out in the city, many taxi drivers seem to turn down short trips unless you agree to a higher fare ahead of time. On the plus side of the location, it is walking distance to lots of food courts, and close to the famous snack streets (e.g.三七小吃街). Amazing amazing street food in Guiyang! The hotel itself is very nice, comfortable and large room. ATM right next door. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, did help us hire a car for an outing, but did not seem entirely knowledgeable about local areas. I do speak Chinese so can't rate their English. I can see how the place may be slightly difficult to find if the taxi driver doesn't know the name of the hotel (it is phonetically translated so it's basically gibberish in Chinese). The street address is not helpful because it's a very long street and numbers are not displayed. Our first taxi driver didn't know the hotel but was able to drive by and asked me to check the name on the building. A second taxi driver did know the hotel even with the awkward name.

We got in very late and left very early the ext morning.
