"Won’t be going back"

2.0

Decided to book a night away last minute as we had a stressful week and having stayed here before thought it would be nice treat Booked an executive room dinner bed and breakfast. Knowing the restaurants are not huge attempted to book the brasserie only time available 3.30. Rang the hotel we could have a table for 6 pm but only for 1 hr 15 mins or we could eat elsewhere and have drinks credit or eat 9 pm. We chose 6 and were told that we could get there 10/15 mins early Check in we arrived at 14.55 room not ready had a wedding day before and all rooms taken so house keeping running late. Advised 3 pm is only a suggested check in not guaranteed! This was a grey haired lady with a very short haircut. I started to say we weren’t happy as booking had been a pain. And she paid no attention to me and talked to her colleague she never apologised for her rudeness and when she finally deemed that she would continue with us my husband explained we weren’t happy. She said she would speak to Darren the kitchens manager to see if there was anything extra she could do and she would call the room or mobile. We said we had eaten lunch early to be ready to eat at 6 but to have table longer would be good. She said get there early (she was the one we had spoken to on phone) she was the only member of staff that we found rude and off hand Executive room 202 was allocated to us. Straight away no delay. A lot of steps to reach this room and absolutely no help with case. We had a large heavy case as we have to bring our own special pillow as suffer with back issues. Obviously carry case to room was not helpful for back issues Room 202 is tiny no robes no slippers a tiny window and a dark ceiling it felt like we were in a dungeon. On inspecting the bathroom there was a tiny shower with a door that opened inwards! Twiggy would be fine but a normal person would not be able to get in shower and close door. So back to reception and changed to another room with free upgrade as it had four poster bed room was called Eaton Eaton was an airy large room with robes and slippers. Downside the front of the fan was missing the dust on the rear drapes was awful the mattress you could feel all the springs when you sat on bed to get in the wooden side dug into your legs every time you moved the headboard did a load creaking noise that woke you up no minibar one bottle of warm foul tasting water no shower cap 2 everyday tea bags loose taps on sink toilet seat loose light bulbs not working Could it get worse? Arrived for dinner 10 minutes early as advised they were having staff meeting they needed to check with kitchen they were ok to let us in as don’t open u til 6 (no phone call from grey haired lady as promised) Eating dinner and discovered nylon string in my mouth! I checked rest of food seemed ok and due to time constraints I finished my meal and we gave the string to the waitress she returned to our table and said chef apologised and said chef said we could have complimentary desserts (plural). My husband ordered the 4 cheese board and got 3 different cheeses but one was cut into 2 to make it 4 bits of cheese the cheeses were not as stated on menu so my husband mention when the plates were cleared and she said she wouldn’t charge us! We said you weren’t charging anyway and she said oh did you have string too! We did quickly finish our drinks at 7.30 when we noticed a couple at restaurant reception and no tables available! No point someone else having their stay affected Oh when we checked in we had to book a breakfast time we were not allowed 9 am by grey haired lady only 8.45 or 9.15. So when we arrived for breakfast we thought it would be busy. Nope not busy at all and one couple turned up at 9. Ordered breakfast no baked beans arrived with full English so had to ask for them and no teaspoons! Continental breakfast was laughable Checkout sadly grey haired lady was there but fortunately her computer didn’t work so other young lady took us over. She seemed genuinely concerned about our stay. We said about shower in 202 and grey haired lady butted in to say it was the one fixed that week. Well we shut her up when we said there is a review on trip adviser 2 weeks ago complaining about it!!!! I usually check trip adviser before booking anything and this time I didn’t. More fool me. Apart from the grey haired reception lady all the other staff were pleasant The castle has lovely outside areas that are really wasted sadly. It seems to us that they only seem interested in the weddings the hotel guests are not prioritised at all

"Peckforton Castle stay"

10.0

The Castle is a picturesque location and the facilities are top quality. A really nice drive through the woods and you will find ample parking before a short walk through the grounds to reception. There was a wedding whilst we arrived but it did not disturb at all and in any event, it was the perfect venue for a wedding. In the evening the wedding area was separate to the general guests area and so again there were no issues, and we could not hear a thing in the evening from our room. Staff at reception were attentive and friendly. We had a suite room which was huge, with a lovely four poster bed and luxurious bathroom. There was also a mini fridge in the room to store food/drink if needs be. We stayed during a heatwave and the room was arm at night but fans were already provided in advance of us arriving. The brasserie restaurant had a short menu but everything ordered was top quality. There was a good selection of draft beers and bottled spirits to order, and the staff were extremely helpful with accommodating allergies. The setting in the "old" kitchen of the castle made for a unique experience. Breakfast was a cooked to order style, with bread and pastries available as a buffet. As with the dinner, everything was cooked to perfection and the breakfast room had a lovely view of the grounds. All in all a fantastic venue for a weekend away, and there is no compromise in the quality of the stay despite the idyllic location. Would 100% visit again and would consider it as a wedding venue without a doubt.

"Overall good experience but rooms were ppor"

4.0

Spent a few nights at this hotel for a family wedding. The wedding was incredible and staff were very helpful and it was clear that the organisation was excellent. However, the accommodation and comfort dissapointed me. The rooms are outdated, the carpet worn and there was also a slight split in the carpet covered over with ducked tape. The dull lightening also spoilt it. The room was stuffy and we couldnt open any of the windows. The rooms are completely over priced. Some parts of the hotel are difficult to access if youre in a wheelchair or have mobility issues but wherever possible there are aids to go between floors and the staff will go above and beyond to assist you. There are lifts between all floors and where there are steep or difficult to navigate staircases there are chair lifts. Although I stayed in the same room as my parents, there are disabililty accessible rooms. The Brasserie is on the ground floor so someone in a wheel chair someone or with a disability could access it easily and safely. The food is unbelievable and the service excellent. Notify the hotel when you reserve your room. My only concern overall was the room. Apart from that the stay was enjoyable.

"Wonderful stay"

8.0

We have just spent 2 nights at the hotel for my birthday. A fantastic stay and we will definitely be back. The staff are amazing, reactive and friendly. We enjoyed our meal in the brasserie and our room service breakfasts. The bed was super comfy and we slept well. Such a beautiful venue to stay at.

"Should be better"

6.0

Myself and my daughter treated ourselves to afternoon tea. I have to say that it was decidedly average at best and definitely not worth the cost. The venue is lovely and in beautiful grounds and there was a wedding party outside, which was nice to see. We went to the bar and waited several minutes to be even seen. We then waited for someone to seat us. He took us out of the bar into another room which gave a cafeteria impression. He left us for a few minutes and when he came back I asked if we could have a table in the bar with everyone else having tea. He took us to another table, which was fine, and left us again. After another five minutes or so we could choose our drink, which came another ten minutes later. We then waited about 15 minutes for the tea to be brought. We booked for 2:30 and finally got our tea around 3:10. I would have expected it to be ready when we arrived. The food was fine, standard stuff, egg, cheese, coronation chicken and smoked salmon sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam (but not enough of either) and five small but different tiny cakes which we had to cut in half so we could both sample each one. We had to ask for hot water to top up our tea and waited so long that I thought they had forgotten about us. The hot water was in a small jug, not nearly enough or hot enough but I couldn't be bothered saying anything. I'm not sure why they don't bother to make this a good experience. There were plenty of staff wandering around but none of them gave the impression that they wanted us to be there. It's a shame really as it should be a nice place to go to.

"Great wedding experience, shocking hotel guest experience"

2.0

We attended a family wedding at Peckforton and we had a fabulous day, the castle/grounds are incredible, the wedding breakfast, canapés, evening buffet was all great and I can see the appeal to being married in such a stunning place. However, as a guest of the hotel my opinion is completely different. Terrible service, and the rooms aren’t the standard they should be for the prices charged (£175 + £60 for 2 children per night). Morning 1 breakfast was slow, after waiting 45 minutes my husbands poached eggs arrived undercooked and was returned to the kitchen, 20 minutes later after we had all eaten a new breakfast arrived for him and the eggs were now hard boiled. I was disappointed that on checkout there was a surplus charge of £5 for eggs Benedict. I don’t agree that this isn’t included in the B&B rate in the first instance given the prices charged but certainly not when you’ve waited over an hour for it and it still not to be cooked correctly. This was removed after I complained on check out, but this should have been automatic. Morning 2 there had been a mix up with the breakfast bookings and we was told we couldn’t be accommodated for breakfast, my 3 and 5 year old was upset at the thought of not getting a breakfast. Reception was no help and told us to discuss with the restaurant manager, who told us that if reception have not booked it was tough, they was full and could not accommodate us. We was eventually seated but again left us with negative feelings. The continental breakfast was not tended to and often empty (no or little fruit for the children both mornings). We stayed in the Oulton suite, on arrival there was a used razor and bar of soap left in the bathroom. There was a roll of toilet roll with one sheet of toilet paper. As though the housekeeper had been distracted or not bothered to clean at all. There was mould all over the bathroom ceiling, which is unforgivable and needs to be cleaned and painted. Interestingly I can see a review from weeks ago from someone who stayed in this room with the same complaint, and it hasn’t been addressed yet, nor has the smashed window!

"Amazing Weekend for our anniversary"

10.0

My partner and I stayed at the castle for our wedding anniversary and all I can say is WOW! This place is like no other. The castle itself is stunning, but the highlight of our stay has to be the 1851 Restaurant. My partner and I frequently dine at high end Michelin star restaurants, and have had our fair share of taster menu experiences, and the one we experienced here was up there. The newly refurbished restaurant is stunning, but what stood out most of all for us were the staff and specifically Tasha. I have never met a more professional, down to earth and more knowledgable member of staff than her. She made our anniversary far more incredible than we could have ever had imagined. Her knowledge of each course and accompanying wine course was incredible. We couldn’t work out the positions of staff in the restaurant but I have to say we would be shocked if she wasn’t managing it. Even when we saw her the following morning for brekafast she had the same attitude and attententiveness. Chef Brian came to our table a couple of times to talk through the dishes which was a lovely personal touch to the experience! The experience from start to end was perfect, and we will definitely be returning for every future anniversary. Thank you for an amazing weekend!

"Stunning venue, but service and room allocation fall short"

4.0

I recently attended a wedding at Peckforton Castle and while the venue itself is spectacular, my experience a We booked a room that was supposed to feature a four‑poster bed and be on the same floor as the rest of the wedding party. Instead, we were placed on a different floor and the room lacked the advertised four‑poster bed. We were also woken the next morning by another wedding party getting dressed in the hallway right outside our room. When I mentioned these issues to the receptionist, I was met with a smirk and no meaningful assistance. Throughout our stay I noticed there were very few staff members around, and those who were present seemed unprepared and lacking in knowledge about basic guest services. The overall impression was that the hotel was understaffed and that training might be inadequate. The castle setting and the wedding itself were lovely, but the misrepresented room and unprofessional service took away from the experience. For the price and reputation of Peckforton Castle, I expected far better.

"Not for everyone but we love it"

8.0

I love this place. Yes the castle is “tired” in places, and it is not going to be the nicest room I’ve ever stayed in, but there is something magical about the place - beds are super comfy, place is clean, shower has power.
