"Need to do better"

6.0

Lovely setting and could be a wonderful 4 star Venue/hotel. Been an old castle you can forgive the cobwebs everywhere but some had clearly been there a long time. Someone was given a key card for our room when they checked in, and told the name of our room, luckily we were in the room at the time so security is an issue! If we hadn’t been in they would have gained access. Our room wasn’t serviced ( we were out from 9.30 to 3.30 so they had plenty of time ) I feel the weddings take priority over regular guests. Restaurant meals weren’t the best but the issue with our meal was resolved (after an hour) breakfast was good and staff in there were excellent. I think they clearly need to up their game with silly issues that shouldn’t happen.

"Poor Experience"

4.0

As a family we were very disappointed with our evening meal at Peckforton Castle. Upon arrival we didnt know the location of the 2010 restaurant and went to reception. After a 10 minute wait with no-one around, we decided to take a walk down the corridors to find that another lady was also lost and couldnt find anybody around to ask for directions. Eventually, we came across the restaurant ourselves and I asked a member of staff who kindly placed us at our table. We ordered our drinks and we looked through the menus. For such small restaurant with 3/4 members of staff on hand, we felt it disappointing to have to ask for more drinks on more than one occassion. The starters arrived and we had ordered a selection of the breads for the table with olives. No side plates had been given and once again we had to ask would it be possible to have plates for the bread. You would think for such a high establishment that Peckforton Castle wants to be known for, that the little things would matter the most. It felt like the young girls waiting on had just come out of sixthform or highschool with little or not experience of hospitality experience. It didnt even seem like a team leader or manager was around all evening to support them staff waiting on which was a shame. Our main food arrived and this was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meals. If I'm honest the food probably was the saviour of the evening! During our third round of drinks we had to ask for, one of the drinks didnt arrive and we had to politely remind the staff. After ordering our desserts no cutlery was brought to our table and again, once the desserts had arrived we all had to ask for cutlerly. Again, for such a high profile restaurant this shouldnt be the case. The young waitress brought around the cutlery and then commented 'enjoy your desserts'. We all looked at each other and thought the same thing. That she almost meant the comment!! Overal we were dissappointed with our family meal, that we had all looked forward to for weeks. Its such a shame and would not hurry back to the restaurant or recommend to friends or family!

A visit to explore future wedding visit. Had drinks and then dined later. Fish and chips were the order for all three of us. The fish was huge. Excellent meal

"Real castle, Realy fine dining."

A real castle in extensive grounds. The tasting menu in the 1851 restaurant was excellent and very competitively priced.

"Afternoon was let down"

6.0

This place is so peaceful and decorated and staff are so pleasant but unfortunately afternoon tea let ut down ....vegetarian sandwiches were poor selection and one jam and cream for two people had to scrap them ....the sandwiches were in triangles and extremely small and all different shapes. The cakes was one of each so you have either fight over who having what or cut in half and the size of two of them was so small... one cake was removed due to not being suitable for vegetarian but didn't swap it? Staff were so nice it's a shame the food wasn't

"Magical experience at Peckforton Castle but maybe bring your own loo roll."

10.0

We attended a wedding yesterday at Peckforton Castle, it was a truly magical experience. Peckforton Castle is the ideal place for a wedding, there’s so much space. Although I didn’t stay overnight I had a look at one of the rooms, lovely interior with a high ceiling and chandelier and I thought rather majestically medieval, as was the whole venue. It was a fabulous day and the food (wedding breakfast) was magnificent and absolutely delicious. The evening food, a ‘hog roast’, wasn’t quite as well executed, it was nice but not quite as it sounded it was rather measly; the hog itself was fairly tasty, but the only other options were some slightly sloppy stuffing, some herby potatoes, pesto pasta that quickly ran out, some corn on the cob and a bap, and there was only one person serving which caused a long queue. There was one more thing I wasn’t very enamoured with, the toilets we were allocated weren’t kept stocked with enough loo rolls and the supply very soon ran out and wasn’t replenished until the end of the evening which was a little too late. All it would have taken was a member of the staff (and there were quite a number of them milling around) to keep their eye on that side of things. Oh and one last thing - drive carefully up the drive/road approaching the castle as there are ‘speed bumps’ and if you drive over them too quickly, they’re lethal.

"DBB stay but the restaurant let the side down."

8.0

The castle it's self is lovely, Reception were helpful, kind and welcoming Our room was okay, dusty around the edges and the anniversary chocolates / card were a nice touch. The biggest issues was when we went for our evening meal in the brasserie The hotel automatically book you a dinner reservation, ours was 5.30 I'd seen this in the small print so amended it to 7.30 both by email and a follow up call as we had response to our Email. When we turned up for our evening meal the waitress snapped at us your 2 hours late and we are full! Eventually we were seated in the semi full restaurant but now I was upset. We ordered steak, that came with no chips, had to order extra chips, no steak knife and when requested no mustard! Breakfast was also very disappointing. Shame really.

"Afternoon tea let down"

2.0

Attended today for an afternoon tea which was a buy-a-gift present. I chose this venue as I’d wanted to go for a long time so this was a perfect opportunity. The castle and grounds are stunning. The staff were very friendly and the service excellent. I’d advised when booking that I was dairy intolerant and this was checked with me when we sat down. My partner and I were advised that it would take a little longer to prepare mine which was fine. The afternoon tea arrived and mine was slightly different to my partners. I’m used to this as some things are substituted for non dairy. I had 4 small sandwiches, 2 which were the same with just tomoto and mustard. My partner had an egg mayonnaise open roll included with his, but I didn’t. The sandwiches were very disappointing. The cakes were uninspiring and dry, not fluffy and light like you’d expect. Both of my 2 scones were very dry and hard and came with just jam and no cream whereas my partner had cream with his. My scones were plain whereas my partners had currents in. Not sure why mine needed to be plain. In this day and age I’d have thought that a popular hotel like this venue would be able to cater more adequately for dairy free options given there are now suitable alternatives for most things and have provided a dairy free cream. I have been for quite a few afternoon teas over the years and this one was the worst I’ve had. I feel let down by the standard and this has put me off considering a stay at the hotel, something I’d previously liked to have done at some point.

"Don't visit"

4.0

We had afternoon tea. We got forgotten! 3 couples who came after us were served before us. They were short staffed (probably other staff were involved with the wedding party) but it's not a big space and they should have noticed we were sat for 40 minutes! We asked twice what happened and in the second time we were finally heard and served. Ruined the whole experience sadly.

"A highly rated 7-Course Fine Dining Experience"

10.0

The 1851 Restaurant has been recently refurbished and they are currently promoting a 7-course fine dining experience for £75 per head plus a wine flight for an additional £50 per head. To complete the experience we booked an overnight Bed and Breakfast stay in one of the rooms in the castle. The 1851 Restaurant has been tastefully refurbished. Gone are the tacky led table lamps and the tired furnishings. The dining experience exceeded expectations. The menu was presented in a wooden box together with hor d’oeuvres. The menu is fixed with no options, but each course was delicious. The food was nicely presented and served professionally. Of particular note were the tartlets that were served on a tray bathed in a dry ice bed. Our server were Charlotte and Daniel, both were friendly and did an excellent job. The Chef, Brian took time to visit the guests and answer questions, which I thought was a very nice touch. The dining experience took about 3-hours. I’ll return with friends to enjoy the experience again soon.
