"Excellent"

10.0

A fantastic location and setting. Stayed for one night for my boyfriend’s birthday. The room we stayed in was perfect, evening meal at 1851 fabulous. Excellent value for money for the third party offer I paid. A little mix up with the billion checkout but quickly resolved. Will stay again.

"Wedding"

10.0

We had our wedding here on 14.10.25 and I can’t tell you how magical and perfect it was. We decided to do our decor ourselves but honestly the venue speaks for itself, we could have had nothing and it would have been just as perfect. The wedding team, we had Molly, were amazing, she helped us along every step of the way, always returned emails and calls and offered a lot of great advice. The team who help the morning of the wedding were also fantastic (especially tammy). Our friends and family loved staying in the hotel the night before it was such an experience for everyone and we would recommend anyone who’s thinking of having their wedding here to do it!!!

"Avoid …"

2.0

Visited for two nights , wish it had just been one. This place is living on its laurels and not realty. Lack lustre staff, being shown to your room entails them walking 5 seconds from the receptionist desk to a long hall and then them telling you the instructions to how to get to your room. Laughable. Not so laughable the actual room. Dirty , distressed, , soiled towels , dirty bathroom floor , the bedroom mirror was so dirty you couldn’t actually see yourself in it. Does this company (and that’s what is is a company that seems to not care to hoots about this lovely building) not have maintenance and housekeeping audits , how the room could be in such disrepair, paint flaking off, patches of paint missing, lob sided toilet seat, shower screen letting water out on to bathroom floor, dirty marks on table /dirty carpet . Cobweb heaven on windows . .. I could go on and on and on .. My advice book elsewhere ,and save yourself some pennies in the process, and just visit this place to take pictures and then leave. something I wish I had done .

"DON'T BOTHER !!!"

2.0

If you're thinking of booking a visit to Peckforton don't bother. My partner and I were so looking forward to an overnight stay in one of their "executive" rooms but boy I wish we didnt bother. The castle and its environs present a visually stunning spectacle, yet the experience unfortunately does not extend beyond this initial impression. Upon arrival, we encountered a reception area that appeared somewhat neglected, and the staff member was unable to locate our reservation. When she eventually found it she said " I will show you to your room". We walked out of reception to a lift where she pressed the button and said When you get to your floor, walk here then here and you should arrive at your room ( so, in fact, she walked us to the lift and that's it). We walked where she instructed us to and we DIDN'T find our room, we had to hunt for it. We finally found it and there was a number on the door followed by 2 different names of the room, it obviously had an identity crisis. When we entered the room we were gobsmacked. It was absolutely NOTHING like the photos of the executive rooms they post online. The ironing board that was leaning against the wardrobe bedind the doorfell as we opened the door because it was leaned against it, not put away. All of the furniture was poorly upcycled furniture that had been chalk painted and over time was wearing off to show the dark brown colour it previously was. The cheap plastic hair dryer was fixed in the drawer so nobody could take it ( who would actually want to is beyond me) you could only dry one side of your hair and then have to turn around to dry the other side, there wasn't even a mirror above the dressing table ( not helpful) so I had to apply my make up in the bathroom. The tea tray was in a cupboard and when you tried to open the cupboard door to pull the tray out it wouldn't open all the way to access said items because the single wardrobe was in the way and they also had one packet of biscuits between us 1 biscuit each, why even bother? The TV also had no signal so, that was a waste of time. The decor well, I just don't get it. It's like someone was trying to go for art deco but why? A stunning castle should have rooms to complement the environment not that rubbish and it was so poorly done to. The bathroom: Oh boy where do I start? The sink was leaking somewhere underneath as there was water on the floor. The shower was so small my partner hit his elbow twice while taking a shower and the roll top bath was also tiny. Whoever designed this place has absolutely no idea of what a "romantic setting" is. I can't comment on the food as when we tried to book into the restaurant they said they couldn't accommodate us before 8 and I don't like to eat after then. Bedtime: the bed was hard and the pillows a disaster, they are way too soft that you may as well sleep on the floor. Subsequently I didnt sleep at all. At 2 am my partner asked if I was okay, my response was " I want to go home" so that's what we did. We checked out at 2.30 am for a 2 hour drive home. We were so disappointed in the whole experience, especially paying £300 for this rubbish. If this company want to take some interior advice go and look at Hand Picked Hotels. They have transformed old buildings into luxury stylish hotels in keeping with the building. The 1 🌟 is for the surroundings and that's it. My partner emailed the hotel and like others he has had NO response at all. I think all the owners are only interested in takings and that's it, which is disgusting. They need to wake up and see the poor reviews and take action otherwise they will go under which is very sad because they have a piece of stunning history they could and should do better.

"Bad customer service"

2.0

Unfortunately my husband and I could not stay for the two nights we had booked for our 20th wedding anniversary because of illness. Despite trying a week prior to the booking to change the dates, I was told we were not allowed to do so, my husband also tried to change the dates only to be told the same thing. We feel this was unkind, we are out of pocket and we won’t get a special break. Very bad customer service :(

"Accessibility room for Peckforton Castle"

10.0

This is the second time we have stayed at Peckforton Castle; the staff are a credit to the establishment, dinner and breakfasts were particularly good. We stayed in an executive room on the first floor called Bickerton, there is lift access from the lobby to the first floor. This room is spacious, has a huge roll top bath and a "Snug" shower cubicle with great water pressure, but would be a last resort for a wheelchair user, unfortunately on this occasion the accessible room was unavailable. There are two disabled parking spaces (unmarked) on the right as you drive through the Castle Keep. There is a bar at the end of a long corridor, but it has three steps to get down to it which we were unable to navigate with a wheelchair, although there is a snug behind the reception (where one wheelchair user could access) where the staff will happily bring food and drinks as required. My wife is a wheelchair user, and the Castle has an accessibility room called “Oulton” (GF2, Ground Floor 2) which has a wet room and is spacious. Within this room there is an almost hidden second bedroom with two single beds, access is for abled people (No Steps but a little narrow and no outside window). You must call to book as it doesn’t show up very well on the website. Our only fault with the room was that the toilet is VERY low, but Luckly we brought a raised over the toilet seat with us, and a shower chair with handles, the supplied shower seat did not have handles. We came in Feb 25, for a Murder Mystery Night and around 125 people participated, and it was a fantastic night, lovely dinner and the entertainers were great. Breakfast is upstairs in the 1851 Restaurant which requires the wheelchair user to transfer to a stair lift and have the wheelchair carried up separately. The tables are packed in although it is table service although there is some help yourself stuff in the farthest part of the dining area which would be tricky to navigate by wheelchair, but luckily I am able bodied, so this was not an issue. A mobility scooter would not be accommodated. We have had excellent Afternoon Tea’s and Dinners in the 2010 Brasserie, which accommodated the wheelchair easily. Overall a lovely place to stay, out in the woods up a long access road, if you want peace and quiet this is the place.

"Lovely hotel but disappointing breakfast"

8.0

As a returning guest I was hoping that the breakfast would be a lot better. Again received the wrong order and the full english was cold to taste with the mushroom amd tomato barely cooked. Even the tea and coffee was cold. Its a shame because the produce looked good. I also saw other guests complaining so something needs to be done as its put me off another visit. On a positive note the hotel is stunning and the staff are very polite and helpful. We had an upgraded room Bunbury which was quite spectacular. We ate at the Braissiere restaurant. Very limited choice so I have the same meal of fish chips and peas. Fish is lovely but very little amount of mushy peas which were cold. We also ordered hot drinks in the afternoon when we arrived and were told that they would be brought to us. After half hour wait they arrived but just warm. More attention is needed with the culinary issues.

"7 course taster menu the star of the show."

10.0

Stayed for 1 night with a Seven course taster menu. We stayed in a lovely 4 poster bedroom. The castle was very quint with nice features. The outstanding thing was the 7 course taster menu. Every dish was outstanding and great value for money. We have had many taster menus before but this was by far the best.
