Tamanu on the Beach

We stayed at Tamanu on the Beach for 9 nights and couldn’t have had a better experience. The rooms are beautiful, the views are stunning, the restaurants serves some of the best food on the island and all of the staff are incredibly friendly. Nicholas makes the best cocktails to enjoy on the beach while you watch the sunset. 🌅

We recently stayed three nights at Tamanu on the Beach and absolutely loved it! It’s the perfect spot to unwind — set away from the busyness of Port Vila, it was the ultimate place to relax and soak in the beauty of the final days of our trip. The rooms were stunning, the beds incredibly comfortable (we had the best, most solid nights of sleep listening to the ocean right outside), and everything was spotless — the property is impressively well maintained, especially given its oceanfront location. The food? Absolutely divine — every single meal was a 10/10. And the staff made the experience even more special. Huge thanks to Fiona, who went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, and special mention to Alice, who welcomed us with the warmest energy and truly nothing was ever too much trouble. While we connected with Alice, every single staff member we encountered was fantastic. We genuinely loved our stay and will definitely be back! If I had to mention one thing for future travelers, it’s that the property is about an hour from Port Vila, and the road is unsealed with plenty of potholes — but honestly, don’t let that deter you. Just be prepared for the trip in and out, because once you arrive, it’s so worth it.

At our third attempt, we got to Vanuatu and managed to stay at the Tamanu. Exchanged cash at the airport – rate as at 13/4 was VUV150 to GBP1 and VUV75 to 1AUD which didn’t seem bad. Tamanu picked us up for our 40 min transfer to the resort. Warm welcome when we arrived and our bungalow – 1 bed with plunge pool was gorgeous – great views of the sea, clean and modern and a large bathroom. Great WIFI in all areas of the resort including the room and nice to have fresh milk in the fridge for tea and coffee. Not much in the area so mainly ate on site and the food was tasty, varied and reasonably priced. Breakfast was included in the rate and this included A La Carte options which were great. Also popped next door to the Pizza place one afternoon for a late lunch and that was well worth the visit (5 min walk along the beach) and as a small business trying to get going they would welcome the support – cash only there. Large pool area which was great to relax in and by. Plenty of quiet areas around the resort and a great place to chill out. Met the owners who were very kind and helpful. All the staff were great and couldn’t do enough for you. Would recommend a stay at Tamanu – you will not be disappointed.

A truely beautiful relaxing destination We have been visiting Tamanu yearly since 2017. We had our Honeymoon here and the resort was beautiful. The food was definitely a standout, such a range available on both the regular menu and the chef's specials board (which was almost a second full menu). All breakfasts came with a fresh fruit platter, food is from a range of cuisines, and my wife's dietary requirements were easily accommodated. The staff were also amazing - Meena and Laura looked after us very well at the spa and restaurant. The road between the resort and Port Villa is very treacherous and bumpy but the drivers - Danny and Denville - who took us on our outings took very good care of us and were excellent tour guides. For things to do we recommend the horse riding, the weekly fire show and the spa at the resort. Note: the earthquake has obviously had a big impact around the island. Road conditions are quite poor, the downtown areas of Port Villa are closed and within the resort there are some villas that were closed for repairs. While some activities have stopped there is still lots to do both around the report and as excursions.
