The Castle Inn Bradford on Avon

A lovely town, with plenty to see, and ideally placed for a commute into Bath. The B & B was located a short walk from the centre of town, with plenty of eateries, independent shops and places of interest to explore. Despite being a pub, come closing time it was very quiet and relaxed. Staff were lovely and helpfully, and knowledeable.

There was a lack of hanging space and hangers in the room at the B & B. A coat stand or wall hooks would have been beneficial but otherwise fine.

Our room was delightfully spacious with comfortable large bed. The bathroom was also a very good size with large shower and instant hot water and it even had a window providing some natural light. The lighting for both rooms was far better than most similar establishments.

The main defect was the so called "continental" breakfast. It was haphazard with inconsistant limited choice. Pastries or yoghurts were not always provided. The jam selection was just that, no marmalade or honey. The selection of 3 cereals went down to 2 when the muesli ran out. We also found the 9.00 am start very inconvenient for our planned excursions. Another aspect that surprised us was the fact that rooms are not serviced. It didn't bother us but feel we should have been informed.

Friendly and professional staff. Excellent food, both breakfast and dinner. Nice atmosphere in the bar area in the evenings. Lovely garden

Bedroom layout could be improved - very large room but bed located in a corner making access impossible against wall. Bathroom would benefit with some TLC (tile grouting etc). Visitors should be aware of the hill that needs to be climbed on returning from town centre

Location was fine and the staff pleasant enough. Cooked breakfast was ok.

Room facilities ( stayed in room 1) - additional chair, hooks on the door, less shabby furniture, pictures on the wall and curtains that actually fitted the windows, higher bed and better linen. Such a large room could have been offered as a family room. Breakfast layout could be improved to look more appealing, addition of fruit for example or yoghurts. Felt like a prime candidate for The Hotel Inspector.

Manager Lucy was pleasant, obliging and efficient. The room was comfortable, with a great view. The continental breakfast offered good choice and was well presented.

We were surprised that there was no staff member on the premises overnight - though we were given an emergency contact number.
