The Sydney Arms

The staff were very friendly and helpful indeed. The pub was clearly enjoyed by locals and although it was a random Thursday evening in September, it had a comforting atmosphere. The drinks were good. The kettle, TV and en suite (with shower) were much appreciated. I would definitely stay there again!!

The bed felt a little springy but it didn’t disrupt my sleep in any way!

Manager was really friendly, very relaxed. Great value for money. The bed was probably the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever slept in. Generally very clean, check out at 11 is great too.

Not really an issue, but as the hotel is attached to a pub and I stayed on a Friday night it was very noisy until midnight, however I knew this would be the case when booking - the price of the room was the cheapest in the area, you want gold standard then pay the prices! The manager was also very clear about the noise too and after the pub closed it was silent so a good nights sleep was still had.

I particularly liked chasing the shower head around. I also enjoyed the tiny TV at the very extreme of my vision!

The wall paper lets it down as it is no longer fashionable and peeling in places. The bathroom light is an old energy saver and so I was unable to aim for the first 5 minutes of stream!

Honestly I struggle to find things I liked aside for the location. It's close enough to "downtown" Dorchester that we can get food easily, there's a Sainsbury nearby, and it was close to where we needed to get to.

Unfortunately Sydney Arms fell below expectations. For starters a few things looked like they were falling apart (e.g. the shelf in the bathroom looked like it could fall at any moment). In the bathroom there was mold on the window, the towels they provided us with smelled (probably of mold?), and the shower was barely warm enough. There were instructions for how to connect to the WiFi but we couldn't find the network. There was a TV but since there was no WiFi we couldn't actually use it. The room itself was also fairly cold. Probably wouldn't stay there again.
