"Excellent breakfast set & attentive staff"

8.0

LOCATION: 1)GREAT FOR TRENDY FASHION WEAR & CHEAP EATS. Nestled in Xinxing @ Sinsing district, Kaohsiung Mirador Hotel is an ideal stay for those seeking to be within walking distance to the New Jyuejiang & Yuanshu Yuchu shopping streets as well as the Shinkudan shopping street. The Shinkudan shopping area is situated just one street behind Mirador Hotel, whilst New Jyuejiang & Yuanshu shopping streets is just a 3-4 minute walk down the street. These shopping streets are the place to be if you are looking for low-to-medium priced imported & made in Taiwan fashion attire and accessories. 2)MTR STATIONS: BETWEEN TWO MTR STATIONS It is located between 2 of the most beautiful MTR stations i.e. Central Park station & Formosa Boulevard station. The nearest MTR station is still "Central Park Station" , about 550m away from the hotel (a leisurely 7-8 minute walk). Formosa Boulevard station is further, distance wise it's at least 900m away from the hotel. For our daily travels we walked to Central Station, which takes us past numerous optician shops, trendy clothes boutiques (if you walk on the same side of the hotel). If you were to walk on the opposite side of the hotel (same side with Kaohsiung Hsin Hsing High School), you will encounter a few small scale clothes boutiques, florist and McDonald's. Nearby cheap to mid range eateries and bakeries are at the side connecting roads - these are mainly frequented by the locals. EXTERNAL FACADE OF HOTEL The architecture is reminiscent of a European style building with its Spanish wall painting, choice of ceiling and wall lighting as well as choice of decor. The lobby, the lift with the armchair and the lovely in-house "Sunshine Garden Restaurant" at the 5th floor were very pretty. Lots of Instagram-worthy photo moments for sure! ROOMS: DELUXE DOUBLE ROOM We opted for the "Deluxe Double Room" which have windows & a granite-like bathtub in the bathroom. One of my family members stayed in the "Superior Double Room" which was smaller in size, with a smaller bed, had no windows & no bathtub. The rooms do appear to be in need of a facelift as the paint was peeling of the cupboards and the walls were tired looking. Thankfully, the rooms were cleaned and did not permeate any unpleasant old room smell. Our queen-sized bed was soft ensuring that we had a good night sleep. We loved the experience of bathing in the granite bathtub. It made us feel like we were soaking in a hot water spring after a full day of sight-seeing and shopping. A very rejuvenating experience. Just like any hotel in Taiwan, the water pressure in the bathroom is low so it is useful to remember not to flush any tissue or toilet paper in the toilet bowl. There is free-wifi provided throughout the hotel. There is plenty of electrical charge points too. Another PLUS POINT is the in-house breakfast at the 5th floor "Sunshine Garden Restaurant". Every day guests are given the option of either the "Chinese Breakfast Set" or "Western Breakfast Set". Very savoury and the side dishes change every day. In addition to the served breakfast set, guests can supplement with toasted bread & have a free flow of plain congee, tea and coffee. Vegetarians need not worry as the menu can be individualised. HOSPITALITY Reception staff are friendly and attentive to our needs. Non-Mandarin speaking guests may face language barrier problems. The language barrier problem I suspect is not confirmed to Hotel Mirador alone. From our observation, English is not widely spoken in Kaohsiung via our numerous interactions with locals at shopping malls, MTR stations, taxi drivers and shopping attractions. THE VERDICT: Great stay for shopaholics, if you don't mind the 7-8 minute walk (550m) to the Central Park MTR station & can overlook the tired looking room. Loved the complementary breakfast set which is savoury and keeps you filled up till lunch, enjoyed a good night's sleep and relaxing soak in the granite bathtub. Although it's old, it's clean and has no old room smell.

"Nothing Great"

6.0

Mosquitos and bed bugs in the room. I was bitten by the bugs on my body so are my children. Have to ask the front desk to do a check and do some cleaning. Nothing great about the breakfast. Only good point is near a shopping belt.

"Bien, mais .."

8.0

"Good location but rooms are old"

8.0

The staffs are helpful throughout the stay. Location of the hotel is good, being in a walking distance to nearby shopping places. Tired looking rooms and it doesn't feel to be sound proof as the rooms are situated closely next to each other and being able to hear what's going on outside in the walkway.
