Islanda Resort Hotel

Breakfast was poor. Two beetles found a way to our bathroom. Cleaners don’t knock before coming in to your room. Good to know that there is lot of stairs, in case you struggle with those.

Plasseringen er helt super med kort vei til hyggelige restauranter og barer + fine strender både nord og sør på øya. Fantastisk utsikt. Fin størrelse på rom og bad, men fremstår dessverre noe møkkete (tak, vegger, lampeskjermer etc.) til tross for at de ryddet rommet vårt hver dag.

Det var spor av veggdyr på vårt første rom med hageutsikt. Vi ble tilbudt å bytte rom en etasje opp med pool view ved å måtte betale ekstra for dette. Rommen hadde hatt godt av en grundig nedvask(tak, vegger) og rens/utskift av gardiner og tekstiler da det fremstår som møkkete. Er også harde senger.

Ett bra Hotell med bra läge på en höjd. Utsikt över havet, pool med infinity känsla mot havet Det var inte gångavstånd till stranden som man kunde tro, stranden nedanför var inte badvänlig= långgrunt och stenigt. jo kanke men då var man trött. Hyr moppe helt riskfritt då det var väldigt lite trafik. Då gjorde man ön på en dag.

Building pretty run down Can’t use pool after 7pm

This is a complicated review for me to do.  First and foremost we really enjoyed our 10 nights here.  We found a lot to do because we love snorkeling and our search for snorkel sites included beaches and private charters.  As a summary for Islanda and Koh Mak I would say come for the fantasy but prepare for the reality.  Depending which room you get you can get that fantasy view of the bay from this hilltop hotel.  The nearest beach is about a 15 minute walk and if you snorkel slowly and observe there's a fair amount to see anong the soft corals of the and at other beaches.  The restaurant at Islanda is good and we ate there several times in addition to daily at the breakfast buffet.  The breakfast buffet is basic with an Asian slant and includes eggs cooked to order but there is plenty to eat unless you are fussy.  The reality I mentioned earlier is this is a remote island with limited access to skilled tradesmen and staffing.  Running a hotel on a remote island in the tropics is very hard and keeping up on the maintenance is a constant chore.  Islanda tries very hard to keep up but at times it has problems.  A couple things I want to mention is make friendly with the receptionist/manager.  She is the one who can get you charters, book your tours, enroll you in a cooking class, find you a scooter and can call taxis for you.  The cleaning staff did a fine job and the women working at the restaurant were friendly and helpful.  Our room was large and comfortable with that gorgeous view.  The room had a mini refrigerator, an electric kettle, good air-conditioning and good lighting.  The bathroom was interesting in that we could view the bay from our shower bathtub.  We would come back here however, some people might prefer to be down on the water.

It took us 7 days to finally get an omelet without onions even using a translator app and various gestures.  I'd suggest they give customers a checklist for the omelets.  I'd also like to see mangos and more papaya with the breakfast buffet.   There is no yogurt, cheeses or charcuterie at breakfast either.  They had one bicycle for guests but it was not working when we got there however they did finally get it working but it was too late for us and we needed two anyways.  The hotel is not wheelchair accessible. We emailed them several times for information about how to book a transfer to the island and the hotel. They never replied. Yes, they do offer the service but why they never replied, we never found out.

We love this place, such a cozy hotel, beautiful room, lovely sea view,very good breakfast, we just love the whole island and the vibe there, would definitely recomend anyone to come and stay in this hotel. Woman at the reception is super kind and sweet, she helped us a lot with scooter, where to go, with transfers, and always with the smile on the face. Thank you for everything, and for this lovely stay in your hotel we had an amazing time. Would love to come back.
