Perhentian Island Resort

Service absent. Vermin present. Location unbeatable. Upon arrival (we are return visitors), the bell boys just looked and smiled at us, while we were dragging our luggage along - a far cry from the times they come to pick you up at the boat! I am almost certain that the room was not booked the night before, judging not least by the damp smell - but it was not made available until official check-in time, just because that is the policy. Room service was sporadic at best - including removing full bin bags from bins - and then leaving them on the floor... when I asked for the possibility of late check-out, much as for check-in, I was given the rule book: possible, but at an exorbitant hourly rate... Vermin - still not sure if that was a squirrel or a rat rummaging through the room at night - I prefer to think it was a squirrel. As for the cockroach on the breakfast buffet, those, I recognise. Food was forgettable, as always - it seems like they have a competition to identify the person least able to cook eggs (!), who then staffs the egg station... Location is unbeatable, though, so one star for that.

The Reception staff couldn't be more helpful and give you lots of tips for getting around the island. This hotel is situated on the best beach in my opinion and its surroundings are beautiful. The rooms are built in the style of traditional Malay chalets, they're basic inside but comfortable. The only thing that lets this hotel down is the cleaning staff and the restaurant- eat elsewhere!!

Excellent location. Nice restaurant with good food. Beautiful room next to the beach but you so that the maintenance is poor, some things are broken or dirty.

Very relaxing stay in this hotel. No TV and internet in the room will make you talk with your companion which is great. Spend my whole week looking at the sea and diving in the ocean is the best time that I have ever been. Will revisit this place for sure!

Beutiful island ...best beach Best staff and fresh air here

Perfect, stunningly beautiful and relaxing setting! Amazing wildlife and peaceful landscape with spectacular beach and swimming! Snorkelling also convenient. Staff very friendly though respect for and sensitivity to turtles, especially during nesting season, should be improved through environmental education so as not to crowd so close and to refrain from touching and disturbing the mother turtle etc. Turtles are amazing creatures and the top attraction at this resort and eggs and turtles should be better protected from unscrupulous egg thieves.

this is the second time we have been to the perhentians, which are stunning. this hotel, however is not. 1) it's twice the price, and half as good 2) blinds didn't work in room, didn't get fixed despite reporting it, meaning limited privacy and a 6am sunrise wake up cos of the light. the guy did come but couldn't fix it at that moment. then was never to be seen again. 2) bathroom smells of you can guess what. 3) light outside room stopped working, meaning a 5 minute fight trying to get the key in as when the power went off 4 times a day your phone didn't charge enough to use the torch. 4) the power went off 4 times a day 5) they didn't provide a torch despite asking 6) no umbrella, we didn't ask to be fair, but seems remiss not to put one in the room. 7) no tv or wifi. but don't expect any events to be organised. also no wifi means reception was always jammed with people checking emails, looks really quite bad. 8 the beach is great 9) the worst aspect. despite booking a return boat and land trip, they booked a one way land trip. this was discovered on check out. where their first instinct was to tell me why I was wrong. until I showed the email, then it was to say just get a taxi for more money, basically just dumping us at the Jetty. then they called up to arrange. which although stressful solved the problem they had created. they also made 20rm for their mistake, they profited from our stress. do not stay here, even for the beach.

The hotel was beautiful, old but we were in one of the newer rooms- the older ones didn't look so grand from the outside! The bed was comfy, room was clean, everything worked, lovely little deck, we really enjoyed out time. The tennis court is grown over with moss and the badminton court has no usable net, and I wouldn't swim in the pool but the beach and the volleyball are perfect! Hotel staff were okay, but the snorkelling tours that were promised by the hotel refused to take us out because there weren't enough people...so they sat around doing nothing instead. A little disappointing. The hotel food isn't great (at all) but a short walk over to Barat is worth it- would recommend the seafood BBQ! Keep in mind everything is expensive on the island, and PIR doesn't sell alcohol. Bring your own/buy from the store. Would definitely stay again!

Good experience with staff. Room need upgrade. Good location and view.

PIR was quiet, and relaxing! Would recommend to anyone.
