If you like to sleep on concrete, and pay top dollar for the experience, then this is the hotel for you! I have travelled and stayed in all manner of accomodation, this was clean, rooms airconditioned, but the bed was the WORST I have EVER slept in. It was so bad that for our remaining two nights, I relocated to the 'day bed' to sleep. And I thought the beds in SE Asia were hard..... they are positively plush in comparison. Thankfully this was the only hotel we came across during our travels around Tanzania that had such beds. We arrived late following an extremely long flight and a three hour wait for bags that didn't make the flight and were told by the receptionist that the dining room was open. We put our hand lughage into our room, and went straight down. We were not offered any menus, just that the waiter would bring soup and then we could help ourselves to the buffet that I suspect had seen better days. There were some crumbs left on the 'dessert' table, and not a great deal else. They still had the Christmas lights up, which would have been nice, had they not been accompanied by a tacky tune you'd expect from a child's toy constantly repeating. It wasn't until the following day that we discovered there was a cheaper, simple menu we could have ordered from. The breakfast was very good, so no complaints there. The staff were very nice, but we watched the interactions with them and the manager, and we gathered from bloody language, tone etc that he wasn't particular

"Nice way to end the trip!"

10.0

Ended a 3 week trip here and it was really fantastic! I love the safari and Kilimanjaro climbing rents, but this was the perfect way to ease back into regular life. They arranged an airport shuttle, have great balconies for hanging out, and very comfortable rooms! Totally recommend the African Tulip.

"Five star"

Everything was five star - staff, service, food and rooms. They let me stay past checkout at no extra charge, as my ride to the airport wasn't until 2pm.

"A beautiful hotel following a safari."

10.0

A beautiful hotel with very accommodating staff. A wonderful place to stay following a long safari. In the heart of Arusha, great to access safaris, post office etc. Dinner was delicious at the Baobab restaurant, but the free breakfast was less than average.

"good night's sleep on arrival"

8.0

Despite a problem with our understanding that we would have a full-sized bed rather than a cot in our room for our teenager, the problem was eventually resolved to our satisfaction. The late evening front desk staff spoke almost no English, but our driver from the airport was able to translate a bit of the issue, though I'm sure he couldn't comprehend the problem. We were all exhausted from our flight from Canada, so it was a bit of a downer having to deal with the issue for 30 min upon our arrival. On reflection, the hotel was technically correct regarding giving us a cot, but I had sent the hotel 2 emails prior to our arrival that we wanted a regular bed for our tall, very grown up teen. They'd written back that would be fine. The hotel has character - lovely wooden floors, plants, a sense of place, comfortable beds and an attractive restaurant - a nice intro to Tanzania. We ordered room service that night - expensive, particularly a bunch of saran wrapped very stale chips and some unappetizing soup. But that's from the perspective of exhausted travellers who were dying for a beer n simple sandwich at 11pm. Most importantly, we all had a very comfortable first night in Tanzania and the lounge area was a very nice spot to meet with our safari company rep the following morning to discuss our safari beginning that day.
