"Good"

4.0

Good location. Well-appointed. Could be lovely. But staffing levels very low and we found they were mostly absent - this was of concern when we had a problem with a key, and we consider it could have become a safety issue. When we could get hold of them, staff were pleasant but relatively ineffectual. Cleaning was minimal - you shouldn't have to complain to have a bed made and bathroom cleaned properly - and we didn't request cleaning every day. It was noticeable that the large expanses of glass were not being cleaned. Wifi didn't work for us, no matter what we tried - but it worked elsewhere in the village. Everything seemed to run off a computer system which didn't function properly or had poor connection. No working aircon and windows in the room only opened a fraction. It was stifling. A very noisy mobile aircon unit was eventually put in the room on an extension lead. Musak on all day until 11.00pm, audible in the room. Musak until 9.00pm on the terrace very audible in the room. No privacy in rooms overlooking the terrace without closing the curtains. All the potentially great features of this hotel were eclipsed by a lack of staff and care - these things cannot be replaced by a computer programme and a remote mobile contact number. We were disappointed.

"Excellent and comfortable stay"

10.0

My husband took me there for my birthday with friends. I can honestly say I was incredibly impressed. The newly refurbished hotel is elegant and very comfortable. I can honestly say out of all the hotels I have stayed at all over the world this one was the best. Fantastic spacious room with a sea view and well laid out. The room was quiet - no corridor noise , banging doors or shouting and the hotel was full with families, children , coupes and dogs amongst the guests. The Coast restaurant is superb. A lovely selection on the menu and all of us agreed that the food was absolutely delicious, fine dining at its best. Anthony and staff went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. Would definitely recommend.

"I would not recommend this hotel at all. "

2.0

We did not stay at the hotel due to having both caught Covid. We asked the hotel with plenty of notice to either refund our booking because we were to unwell to travel, or to hold our finances so we could rebook when free of Covid. They absolutey refused us either option. So we paid out for two days stay but did not go there. This is why we give such a low star rating. I would now not recommend anyone use this hotel. Such old fashioned way of doing business in a modern era.

"Awful!!!!!!"

2.0

Where do I start. Booked this so called hotel through a site called pets pyjamas. Wanted a nice coastal dog friendly middle of the range hotel . Booked four nights dinner bed and breakfast . The restaurant which is NOT part of the hotel is fantastic. Food fabulous. However this is where it ends. Dog area has overflowing dog Pooh bin and very small overgrown afterthought area. Hotel is staffed by hard working skeleton multi tasking staff. Not their fault. Public areas not that clean. Our hotel room was supposed to be luxury sea view what a joke . Main view was dog area and a large stagnant rain soaked flat roof. Cushions missing on terrace. Some areas out of bounds Car park filthy Vegetation overgrown Air Con turned off Wi fi rubbish Ethernet cable in room yes I know throw back !!! NOT working and not been for months. We booked four nights Going home tomorrow having stayed two. Truly awful stay!!! Could be wonderful if it was under new management who actually cared. This is an honest and truthful review

"A change for the worse."

2.0

My wife and I recently spent 4 nights at the Llawnroc in celebration of a significant anniversary. We have stayed here 2 or 3 times before. The place is not what it once was: there is something of an air of neglect (one of the bars and the orangery are closed off and marked'No entry to guests'; the once pristine terrace is now weed infested in places; one of the glazing bars in our room's door to the balcony was hanging off) and a distinct lack of staff (reception manned only part-time, breakfast tables not cleared inside and outside tables not cleaned or set even in the loveliest weather). It all began to go wrong on our arrival after a 7 hour journey from the West Midlands. My wife had booked our room: we were to stay in a sea-view suite with balcony - the hotel's 'best room', she was told. Fortunately for us, she had obtained details of our room/booking in writing. The receptionist told us that we were booked into an 'ordinary' sea view room - not a suite - without a balcony. There then followed the bizarre events of the receptionist asking my wife to forward to her details of what the 'bookings team' had promised, as there were apparently 'no records' to back up our claim. My wife did so. The 'best room' was already occupied - booked out to someone else despite our earlier booking, so we were shown 2 alternative rooms. We chose a different room without balcony for our first night night with the suggestion that the room we had originally booked might be available for the remainder of our stay. The shower in this room did not work - scalding water and almost impossible to turn off. Instead of an easy 5 minute check-in, it took us a somewhat stressful half hour to complete this process. On asking to speak to the owner we were told an email address would be provided for us to write about our concerns. We did in fact get the promised/contracted room for the remainder of our stay and the owner unexpectedly telephoned us during our second day. He was unsympathetic and unhelpful, telling us that we had an amazingly good rate for our stay - and that we should not have been offered a 3 for 2 deal or a free dinner and breakfasts. The deal was offered to my wife by the Llawnroc 'bookings team' - my wife in fact contacted the Llawnroc after receiving a promotional email from the Hotel offering the 3 for 2 deal including breakfasts and a free dinner. The owner made us feel as if it was our fault that we had such a 'good deal'. He suggested that we had 'taken advantage' of the Hotel. This being the case, there was absolutely nothing he could do (besides 'a glass of wine') to address the inconvenience and stress of the check in and the first night spent in the wrong room. A couple of days into our stay we arrived back at the Hotel in order to change for dinner in Mevagissey. Our room's door wouldn't open. And the reception was initially unmanned. The receptionist was busy showing rooms to potential guests. So we waited around until she was free. Bear in mind we had a table booked and knew it might be given away if we were late on so busy a day in August. The receptionist told us it was all OK, no problem, and proceeded to update our key to allow access. I explained to her our concerns - the risk of losing our booking, and the unnecessary stress relating to this. We were a few minutes late but kept our table!! To end on a positive note, the food at the coast restaurant was very good during our two dinners. And the location of the Hotel is really lovely. We will not though, be returning.....unless it comes under new ownership (we discovered during our stay that the Hotel is up for sale....which might well explain some of our experiences).

"Lovely hotel but terrible breakfast sadly! "

8.0

We stayed a couple of nights this week - pre-check-in service from Maria was amazing - really helpful messaging service - slightly frustrated however that hotels.com did not include the hidden additional cost of the extra bed for our daughter and dog this was added later and had to pay on check in! Room was lovely very spacious, quiet and great view (room 11) our main issue and reason for 3 stars for service was the breakfast - very expensive £18 for what we got - all very over-cooked full English and the coffee was the worst we have had! Such a shame as such a dog-friendly hotel and loved the fact that we could take her with us in all parts of the hotel! Loved Gorran Haven Overall very happy but the breakfast needs to be improved for that price!

"Superb Sunday lunch"

10.0

Booked in for Sunday Lunch. We're new to Llawnroc and Coast Restaurant. We had bread board as starters which was a warm delicious way to start our meal. Mains were roast beef which was cooked to perfection with a perfect variety of seasonal veg, crispy roast potatoes and a huge Yorkshire pudding. All piping hot and beautifully served. Pudding was mixed berry mess ....shared between three of us because by this time we were fit to burst. Exceptional food and a lovely location. Facilities clean and modern. We'll definitely be returning.

"Could be fantastic"

6.0

We stayed here for one night. The room was nice and comfortable. The location is 10/10. But definitely feel they need a manger around to encourage the staff to be a little more enthusiastic and friendly. There is a lovely seating area with lots of cushions, however when it rained a little they had to move them under the parasols to keep dry. But then the weather dried up and people were sitting back outside and the staff just left them there for hours on a beautiful evening in a big heap giving a very messy feel about the place. Infact they were still like this at 9 am the next morning and glasses from the night before still out on tables. Just felt it really let the place down like the staff couldn't be bothered. We did eat a 3 course meal here and it was average.
