Very nice boutique hotel

Site is beautiful but BE CAREFUL with billing here. I stayed one night (Aug 2–3, 2025) for a wedding but was charged for two nights. I caught the error at checkout and was given a corrected receipt, and the lady promised that it will be corrected. BUT the wrong charge still went through. Now I’m stuck disputing it with my bank, still fighting it because the bank said the hotel representative reported it was the agreed price. Frustrating and unacceptable. Please always double-check your bill if you stay here.

We stayed just one night to help our son move to an off campus house near Pitt. Our room was large and lovely - a grand old building lovingly restored. Parking right there and no extra charge. Just a few minutes from Pitt’s campus. Price was comparable to brand name hotels, but the place is much more interesting. We took a short Uber ride to dinner (love Butterjoint) and enjoyed a nightcap at the hotel bar, sleeping hard in our quiet room after moving and cleaning. The hotel’s bag breakfast was a snack to get us going for good bagels and coffee. Really the only minus there is the lack of solid breakfast and good coffee, and not big one. Will certainly stay here again.

They canceled my reservation after I had received a confirmation that a room had been reserved. They called me to say that there was a glitch in their system that reserved a room in error. When I spoke with the manager, she failed to properly explain to me what had occurred and did not offer any assistance . I had stayed at this property several times in the past, but now they have lost a customer for good. They can never be trusted. Completely unprofessional of them to cancel my reservation after I had received the email confirmation.

I am so torn about this hotel - I adore the property - it's gorgeous, historical, has been preserved thoughtfully and beautifully. I really believe the world needs more boutique hotels like this. But when you walk in and they have no record of your reservation, it's not really okay. After some digging, they did find our reservation, however, but it was in their old system, and thus hadn't been noticed? My confirmation email made no difference, however, as the suite I had reserved was no longer available. We were given a King room, though, which was cheaper, and was lovely. In fact, I would recommend the King room, as it was spacious and comfortable and very reasonably priced. Not only was the room reasonably priced, but this hotel seems to be one of the few in town that did not charge an exorbitant amount for parking. It's free and it's in their lot right outside. A great perk when staying in Pittsburgh! As I said, the hotel is lovely. We especially enjoyed all of the paintings throughout, many of which are available for sale. The bar area was cozy and comfortable and had live music, which was a nice and unexpected bonus. I highly recommend their version of a Manhattan! Before we settled down for the night, we saw a flyer in our room offering grab and go breakfasts in the morning. Items like yogurt parfaits and breakfast sandwiches whose creation and inclusion on the menu was overseen by a chef and would be offered in the pub in the morning. Perfect! We put in our order for the earliest time, between 7 and 7:15, as we wanted to get on the road early for our long drive back to South Carolina. We came down at 7:10 and things were curiously quiet. There were several people waiting and looking puzzled. We confirmed with the front desk that they had received our breakfast order, which they had. So we sat down to wait. And wait. We didn't get our boxed breakfast until 745, and it was delivered by a overwhelmed staff member nearly in tears. But, oh well, at least we had a lovely breakfast to look forward to on our trip. My sausage and cheese croissant sandwich was really egg and cheese, and was microwave-hammered to the point of being nearly inedible. My husband's yogurt parfait was a small container of Activa. Thus, I would advise future patrons to either skip the "breakfast" or make sure the hotel and or pub has resolved whatever hiccups caused these issues. So all in all, I could laugh off the breakfast thing, but the reservation problem really bothers me. What if we'd driven all the way from South Carolina and they were completely booked? Having to scramble at the last minute for a hotel room in Pittsburgh would not have been fun. The staff seemed vaguely indifferent and never even offered an apology. It is interesting to note that we've stayed a several hotels over the last few months and each has followed up with a thank you letter with links for surveys and feedback requests. It is interesting to me that the Mansions of Fifth never followed up with anything.

This is a great hotel in Pittsburgh considering the location and proximity to the campus and stores nearby! Service was also excellent and I enjoyed Susan who had checked me out on my last day in Pitt :)

Historic property and service like the guilded age

It was such a cute place. Most of the staff was very polite and informative. One thing I didn’t like was that I could overhear the cleaning people complaining about their jobs how they didn’t have enough time to complete the work that they needed to get done. Also, I didn’t like how much noise I could hear through the unsealed windows in room 2302 they really need to insulate their windows so it doesn’t sound like you’re sleeping on the street. But I would definitely stay there again. I did really love the place and it’s very convenient for visiting my son at CMU.

Hotel was easy to locate, very friendly staff, and comfortable, quiet accomodations.

Quiet and clean. Nice stay at the mansions in the Amberson House. Historical building is beautiful. Has all the amenities ( except a fridge). Bed is very comfortable and ac was a perfect addition to the hot and muggy Pittsburgh summer!
