Rothay Manor Hotel

Perfect location, peaceful and good access to town. Beautiful garden. The breakfasts are delicious with good produce and excellent choice. Staff are friendly and helpful. Some lovely signature cocktails served in the bar. Nice cheese board on offer via a la carte menu.

Rooms in the old building seem at a stage where they could do with some proper refurbishment for this level of hotel. While the breakfasts are brilliant we felt that the house and a la carte menus weren’t as good an offering as in the past when we’ve stayed.

The room size and comfort were very nice. Of particular excellence was the engineering of the lighting. Overall, the food quality was very good. We especially liked the Rosemary ice cream and Tart Cherry sorbet.

The fruit salad at breakfast was below par. We had to ask to have some berries included and even then the amount was limited. The fruit that was included was under-ripe, not well managed. Also, I would have liked a fresh whole grain, cereal type bread option. The sour dough bread was excellent, but I like to use mostly whole grains.

Wonderfully presented building and grounds, with a very comfortable bedroom

Our room backed onto a noisy junction so traffic noise could get a little loud, especially as the village got busier, but it didn’t detract too much from the stay.

The room was huge and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. The patio space was comfortable and relaxing.

Not a huge deal for us, but there is no elevator.
