Distinction Mackenzie Country Hotel

Great value for money. We were 10 in our group and staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.

This was the only place available for my dates and it’s clear why. The place is really dingy (stained carpet & duvet) and caters mostly to big tour buses. I was there just to sleep; when it rained I found a coffee shop to sit in rather than going back to the room

The room was spacious and the beds comfortable. No Aircon. Staff friendly. This Hotelbrand caters for big overseas groups all over their network in NZ. We had 3 large coaches and it can be quite busy and noisy. Buffet breakfast is included..

The bar staff were extremely helpful despite having a busy restaurant. The staff at the reception were casual and disinterested.

Old, tired but nice size room

Our welcome by the staff at reception was not very warm or friendly so my first impression was not very good. Our room was quite spacious and clean, but I admit that we didn’t realise that there were hotels that don’t have air conditioning, and this was one of them. Being a warm day and having a room on the second level our room was quite hot. They did provide a pedestal fan that helped. Breakfast was nice and the staff in the restaurant were friendly and helpful.

Outdated facilities, but friendly staff

The room is big, and that's about the only positive thing. Beds are very soft, there's only 1 chair in the room so you have to sit on the bed. No chairs on the terrace. The bathroom is in desperate need of renovation, the water pressure is low, there's hardly any water coming out, it is impossible for a woman (with long hair) to wash it. The ventilator switches on and off automatically, you cannot control it. No air-conditioning or fan, so you need to have the window open but then there's the traffic noise early in the morning. We didn't have dinner in the hotel and we had breakfast somewhere else. All in all it was a bad experience.

Our family had a wonderful stay. Three adults and one child. The deluxe family room easily accommodated my Family, and it was good opening the windows and doors for fresh air. The buffet breakfast was delicious, plenty of parking, and friendly staff.

There aren't too many options in this area to begin with. Having said that, this hotel was clean, well maintained, had an onsite restaurant, and the service was good. Do watch out for no elevators for 2nd floor rooms and the 10am check out requirement which is the earliest we've ever checked out.
