"Great hosts, a truly welcoming B&B"

10.0

I normally do not like writing reviews about hotels. I have stayed at many B&Bs in Europe, and have been mostly satisfied with the level of service and quality of the room. But they all seem to lack a homely feeling that I crave for. The hosts are usually cordial and nice, but they don't really go out of the way to make you feel welcome. This sets this nice B&B apart from the dozens I have visited, and this is why I am so motivated to write a review in this case. Pascal is a very gracious host, and is one of those truly sincere people who are just simply nice. He was very warm, and contributed in every way he could to make our stay a welcome and pleasant one. The guesthouse is a few steps from the famous mannekin pis, and very close to the grand place. Pascal even volunteered to drive us to the airport because he was on his way out the day we were leaving, and refused to take money for it. This is definitely one of those rare places where the owners really open up their home to you, and you feel like a part of the family. Also, they have only one guest room, so you don't have to fight with other travellers, and you have peace and a nice bathroom to yourself. I would stay there every time I go back to Brussels.

"Home-from-home stay in Brussels"

10.0

Beautiful interior, with period fittings throughout, high ceilings, oak beams, yet modernised in good taste. It was like staying with friends or family - I was made to feel very welcome by my hosts, who were also keen to share their knowledge of the city and surrounding area. My only criticism was the fact that the free wi-fi didn't work in my room, due to the thick walls, I think. Also worth mentioning is the fact that you have to navigate 2 floors of stairs to get to the only bedroom on offer, which might be difficult for those with mobility issues. However, this shouldn't detract from a beautiful B&B, centrally located. I would definitely stay here again if visiting Brussels, and would wholeheartedly recommend it to others for a romantic break in this nice compact city.

"Exceptional Guesthouse"

10.0

Anyone going to Brussels, you must stay at Carmelites Guesthouse. We have been lucky enough to stay there twice in the past 4 months and highly recommend Carmelites. Akemi and Pascal are wonderful hosts - from the warm welcome with tea (for me) and beer (for my husband), to the incredible breakfasts, to the chocolates, rose, and lavender bath salt waiting for us after a long cold day enjoying Brussels, to the gift of hot chocolate packets to take home with us, and finally to Pascal personally delivering us to the airport, we felt enveloped with hospitality and warmth. In addition, not only is the guesthouse beautiful, it is exceptionally located near Manneken Pis, and a short walk to Grand Place, wonderful beer cafes, restaurants, and chocolate stores. Carmelites Guesthouse provides a very special experience in a beautiful city.

"Excellent"

8.0

Very convenient central location with hosts who could not have been more friendly or helpful. Delicious and varied breakfasts. This is very much a B&B, and not for anyone expecting hotel amenities, but was full of character. There was at times a slightly unpleasant odour in the bathroom, not always masked by the air freshener.

"Could not be better"

Pascale and Akemi are great hosts, there is only one bedroom and they give you all their attention and helped us with lots of information and special treats. I would go back, the only problem is that I got spoiled for other B&Bs,

"Wonderful hospitality!Warm and generouse treatment"

10.0

The owners went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable and as enjoable as possible! The location is just in the middle of the center. One can reach by foot the major places to visit. The room was large and special in its style. It may be of a disadvantage for people that have difficulties climbing almost 40 srairs(no elevator). The warmth and kindness of the owners definatly compensated of the need to climb steps.I highly recomend this place!

"Great Guest House next to Mannekin Pis"

10.0

Carmelite is literally around the corner from Mannekin Pis and a two-minute walk to Grand Place. Close enough but not too close. When you see the volume of tourists you'll know why. The guest house consists of one bedroom and an adjoining private bathroom. The rooms were very clean, nicely decorated, and have plenty of character: exposed beams, brickwork, sky lights, and wide plank hardwood floors. The bed was comfortable and the towels and blankets soft. Breakfast each morning consisted of plenty of croissants, yogurt, cheese, fruit, toast and jam, etc. The real star of Carmelite is the service and generosity provided by the owners. If you go, take the time to talk with them. Both are extremely knowledgeable of the city and are more than happy to provide tips, suggestions, maps, and pleasant conversation. One is a tour guide and the other a Brussels native. Both are the friendliest people you'll find anywhere. We arrived very late and tired, so we were pleasantly surprised that they offered to pick us up at Midi station and happily took them up on it. Our next destination was Bruges and we were dropped off Central station. We returned for one last night in Brussels afterward had already (regretfully) booked another hotel. Despite that they drove us to the airport the next day! There's more, but not enough space to describe it. You will not be disappointed with your time at Carmelite.
