Star Hotel

The rooms are decent for the price and the staff is very nice. They advertised a pool and safes in the room with a flat screen - none of which exist. It's nice and quiet for the most part. They are a ten minute walk or $2 tuk tuk ride to the market, pub street and restaurants.

We stayed a couple of days in Star hotel. On line we could only book a big bed for three persons, but on arrival they suggested we could also have a room with two beds, no extra cost. The room was spacious and very clean, nice wooden furniture. The rooms get cleaned every day. It was off season so we had to take breakfast in the hotel across the street but that was fine too. Very friendly and helpfull staff, both in the hotel as at breakfast. The location is great too, walking distantce to the market. We hired a tuktuk driver suggested by the hotel and although the chain kept falling off he kent on smiling.

We booked a double bedroom with no AC for $8/night with a nice private bathroom. The pro is the price. The con is that no AC in their room during the dry season is a bad idea. The room have windows that do not open. The heat goes up and up and, by night, the room temperature reached over 40'C. We didn't really sleep. Eventually, as each room as AC available for extra $, we took it and the room became recommendable. Also, don't hesitate to change room if the one you have smells. The one they gave us first had an awful smell (seriously, it was bad), we asked to change, no problem, the second room was fine.
