The St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort

The resort is large and has nice public area. The room was spacious. The beach is fine. However the service was quite disappointing. The butler was not responsive. It was hard to get late check-out even as a Titanium member, which is fine if the hotel was busy. However I never got confirmation from the butler when she said she would check. When I checked with the reception desk myself, they did 1pm so reluctantly with an attitude I didn’t appreciate. The other requests, I also needed to check more than once to get updates. There was zero protectiveness. The only highlight of the service is from the waitresses in the hotel restaurants. It was such a big contrast when I stayed at Edition Sanya where the service was outstanding.

St. Regis is a royal luxury hotel! I had an amazing experience! Thank you to everyone who created and continues to keep the brand.

Overall the stay was good, And we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, but there a few drawbacks and inconsistencies. Marriott BonVoy members should consider carefully. We stayed at the Garden view Villa which was huge and had its own inground pool. The room itself was extremely clean and everything was functional and did not look dated. However, The layout was a bit odd since we had a king bed in one room along with a shower and bath, and the a completely separated living room which you had to access by walking outside and using the house key. It seems like it would be set up for two separate bedrooms but one is functioning as a living room and kitchenette. In the our villa outdoor pool area the jacuzzi was completely not functioning and there was no water at all. When we commented, they suggested that they can fill it for us if we wanted but it just seemed like too much trouble and probable time waste. We were not offered welcome points and when I complained about it they simply didn't respond to my comment at all. When I asked about an upgrade as a titanium elite member they offered us a seaside villa for one night out of three, but we had to pay the additional cost which isn't really an upgrade at all. The room itself was not ready when we arrived even though I had checked in the day before using the Marriott app and selected a 2pm checkin. They compensated us with a free coffee and one cocktail at the beach bar. When I summarize my complaint points in a WeChat message they then gave us a bit of additional attention over the next few days including providing one free bottle of champagne and a fruit platter which was sent to our room. I felt that the team members genuinely cared about providing us a nice experience but the resort itself was not as flexible. I have to give a special shout out to the staff from Malaysia who made an absolutely perfect Bloody Mary for me on Day 2. They didn't have any canned tomato juice but he sent to the kitchen and made it fresh for me with actual tomatoes. Speaking of which, the food quality was outstanding throughout and a particular highlight was the buffet breakfast at the Villa brunch location located seaside. In terms of swimming facilities only one of the main outdoor pools was open which was actually the one smaller pool with a view of the sea. The other main pool located closer to the villas is more intricately designed but it was not open. Not sure why but I suppose during the lower season it's too cost prohibitive to run. The Beach itself felt pleasantly isolated in the view was fantastic of the surrounding Bay area. There is a limited swimming area but it was sufficient. They were not many guests attending the beach area and as a result the seating selection there is quite limited. Additional seating is available up the small stairs with still a nice view of the bay and the beach. Note that the swim up bar at the main pool was not functioning and look like it had been shut down for many a month. The escalators which help you to move up and down the multi-level floor at the main lobby we're also shut down with cobwebs and a look of general disuse for many months as well. The elevators function perfectly well however. There was a small petting zoo and cart track as well as a movie theater but we didn't try any of them. Regarding price and value overall I felt it was a bit overpriced but still luxurious enough to warrant the spend. Note that we booked the room via the Marriott app and I found other online options to be lower cost by quite a bit. When I called the hotel to ask why that was so they advised me that if you book via the other third party apps you don't get any night credit and you don't get any Marriott points. I felt it was a bit of a disservice to Marriott members to be honest.

I had a wonderful stay. I was so comfortable. The service was excellent. My butler always answered me quickly on WeChat. I loved the free daily yoga and pilates classes. I'll definitely come back in the future.

We participated in children's golf. The coach John was in charge and was very patient. He taught the baby how to operate the golf clubs in detail. The baby had a great time. A very good experience. Five-star praise!

What an experience. The hardware of this hotel is stunning, the butlerservice is simply great. Especially thanks and recognition to Betty and Caroline. I have been there with my wife. The level of luxury is amazing. The breakfast buffet is fantastic. The service mindness is obvious and refreshing. If you want a fantastic holiday on all levels, go to this property. I will return for sure. The beach, the swimming pools, the restaurants, the entertainment, the stunning scenery, the interior, the quality, the friendliness of the staff, the rooms…simply everything is great. Is absolutely worth the price. One of the best hotels in 35 years permanent business travel…..absolutely top.

My mother and my experience at St Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort was greatly elevated after Mr Morgan 莫 voluntarily drove us around in the hotel buggy and gave us a detailed introduction of the hotel grounds. It is because of staff like him that keeps hotel guests delighted. The hotel room was within our expectation of a good hotel. However, Ming Xuan restaurant's beef quality in their 河粉 was poor and could not be swallowed as the beef consists of tendon only. Their fish was not fresh too. We have provided feedback to the waitress and hope that their restaurant could improve their standard in future.

Our stay at the St Regis was lovely but there’s room for improvement. Although there are aspects of luxury and, from time to time, that “special touch” one would expect from a high end hotel and resort, there were also things any 5* hotel should easily get right for a better customer experience. We stayed for a long weekend in a lagoon pool access room and it was beautiful. The rooms were large, clean and luxurious and relaxing. The lagoon pool was clean and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Highly recommend booking the lagoon access room. The resort is well maintained and has many facilities such as the 2 pools (one with a massive sun shade) and the other with an infinity pool, a well equipped exercise fitness room, day spa and a few restaurants. It even has a small go kart track, bumper cars and a cinema. There are a few dining options but not all were available and their actual closing times weren’t clear. There’s a steak and seafood restaurant (Driftwood), an outdoor bbq restaurant on the beach, a Chinese restaurant (which was really good!) and a lounge (Drawing Room - cocktails and bar snacks are great but they closed at 6:30pm on a Friday night which was really strange!). We also got room service the first night we arrived and it arrived hot. Expect to pay luxury 5* hotel prices for food. We had breakfast included at the Social and it had a huge variety of Asian and western breakfast options as well as oat milk for those with intolerances which was appreciated. Not a lot of activities were offered or run unlike other resorts so if you’re happy to lie by the beach, pool or your lagoon access room then this resort might be ok for you but if you are after a resort that entertains and engages you then go elsewhere. Things that can be improved or weren’t so great: - Given it’s not peak season not all restaurants were open. It would be helpful if they informed guests at check in which restaurants were open and their actual opening hours. - Given St Regis Yalong Bay is a resort, we expected daily activities being offered. There were some activities offered but it was advertised in a haphazard and inefficient way (random places around the resort with no consistency). It would have been good if activities were printed out or advertised more prominently. The electronic boards had activities that were out of date or simply not offered/run despite being advertised which was confusing and disappointing for guests. Also where is the “House of Astor” where certain activities were being offered? Still a mystery to us… - The resort seems to be smoker friendly given the ash trays put out so if you are a non smoker or do not like the smell of cigarettes I would avoid this resort. Even though there are non-smoking areas these are not policed. Our hallway would often reek of cigarette smells and those on the lounge chairs at the main infinity pool would smoke and no one would ask them to butt out even though there were little kiddies and toddlers around. Not really pleasant if you’re a non-smoker. - For lagoon pool access rooms, pool towels should be provided for guests to use. There were no pool towels so you had to use your bath towels or walk all the way to the main pool to get towels. And then ask housekeeping for more towels so you can take a shower. - We booked a room for 3 adults yet the amenities provided were clearly only set up for 2 people so we had to ring for extra things. Like many other posts, very little English is spoken here but all the staff are very friendly and have a smile on their faces and do try their best to give you a good experience. You need to be patient and having a good translating app will be your best friend.

Breakfast buffet was great, especially the service provided by Sam 涂家宁. Breakfast has great variety of choices and resort is splendid. My kid loved the beach and kids club. And the kids club organized free activities for kids every day. We had a great time.
