It is about time I update my review from 9 months ago. When I said this would be our new getaway spot, I was not kidding. We have now spent six extraordinary getaways at The Stavrand since last September. We are extremely sad every time we come home because that is how special this place is. Each room is unique! We enjoy spending our time in the Belden House because of the staff and the charm of the house. The beds are out of this world, including the pillows. We enjoy the personalized notes and local snacks that you can enjoy in your room. There are a lot of little gems on the property, including the chef's meadow. The property is incredibly relaxing with multiple private areas and trees surrounding you at all times. We even enjoyed a private yoga session overlooking the property. We are so in love with the property that it is often difficult to get out and enjoy the rest of the area. But I will say there are a lot of activities to enjoy in the surrounding areas including wine tasting, cheese tasting, ziplining, floating along the river, the Armstrong Redwoods, and cute towns nearby. The staff has tons of incredible recommendations and information at the front desk. S'mores and aperitivo hour are awesome and all of the additions from The Stavrand really add to the experience. They provide bikes so you can bike around town and they have kayaks you can use on the river if you choose. All of the attention to detail really make this place special. Speaking of making this place special, the staff and food are EXCEPTIONAL. This is why we continue to come back every few months. We feel like we are at home and as though we are going to our favorite restaurant every single day. The chefs use some of their ingredients from the garden. There are frequent changes to the menu, which make it very intriguing. Everything is FRESH and seasonal, which is the cherry on top. Yes, this is always the best breakfast, but I have to say, PLEASE enjoy dinner if you can. I just had one of my top 5 meals on Saturday evening. These are some of the finest chefs and the best part is how humble they are. I am also not going to name all of the staff we are obsessed with because that would take up an entire page, but you get the idea. We would move here if we could.

I recently spent two days at the Stavrand on an association board meeting retreat. It was the ideal blend of relaxed luxury and quiet solitude that helped everyone forget about their normal work duties and focus on priorities for the association. There is something special about a place that is anchored by a 100+ year old country estate. Ironically, it earned Travel & Leisure’s Top 100 New Hotels in the World in 2021. What? The fact that it is set in a redwood forest in a quaint Wine Country town on the Russian River means I can’t wait to return for a leisure trip with my wife.

Dinner felt overpriced for what you got.

This is a very special place. The staff are all incredibly friendly, helpful, and wonderful to talk to. My wife and I came here to get away for a few days and it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet. Our room was right on the little square with easy access to the firepits where you can make smores every evening provided by the hotel complete with three-foot skewers to roast your marshmallows (made in-house). The complimentary breakfast was one of the best I've had in a long time. I had the avocado toast with a soy egg and chili glaze which was incredible. The grounds are beautiful and include a wonderful little meadow with a chef's garden where we saw a very curious coyote that kept off to the side along with a deer. The pool was perfect on a warm day and the hot tub was a nice reprieve to relax in. The Stavrand is welcoming, peaceful, charming, and all-around a wonderful place to be. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to get away for a few days or would make an incredible location for a company retreat. There are plenty of large rooms and locations for a group to get together and have some productive offsites.

What a gem! If you’re looking for a serene stay with impeccable service, look no further. Spacious, comfortable room. Delicious (and, included!) breakfast. Friendly staff (with the owner, Emily, on site during the week… AND pouring complimentary wine every evening from 5-6). We’ll be back!
