Villas Picalu Lodge

The neighborhood is very nice and ideally located close to everything, whether walking or renting a golf cart, everything is pretty close by.

We were relocated (without prior notice) to the Villas Picalu Studios and Suites due to a plumbing issue at the Villas Picalu Lodge, which was the property we originally booked. This review refers to the Studios. The Studios are well situated near the entrance to Puerto Aventuras, overlooking the golf course with an easy path leading to the village area. The location is peaceful and convenient. Once I discovered that we had been moved without notification, the staff responded professionally and communicated very well. They made every effort to ensure our stay was pleasant, even providing us with bicycles to use during our visit. The facilities are well maintained, and the shared spaces are clean and functional. The garden and pool area offer a private, relaxing atmosphere shared with the other guests in the 5 or so units at the site. Overall, the staff were exceptionally kind, responsive, and attentive, and they did their best to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The accommodation is a good value, especially compared to other units in the area, but a few simple changes and small investments could make the guest experience much better.

We were not informed in advance that our accommodation had been changed. Instead, we were simply sent a new address before check-in, with no explanation about the switch until I pointed out that it differed from our original booking. This was frustrating, as we had chosen the other location specifically to be closer to our family staying nearby. Unfortunately, our unit had a strong cigarette odour. Although the staff promptly provided deodorizer spray and an ozone generator, the smell persisted throughout our three-night stay and left our clothes and bags with a lingering musty cigarette scent. The unit itself is functional but quite basic. The bed was uncomfortable, and the sheets, pillows, and towels were worn and thin. Drinking water is not provided, and the kitchenette is minimal—adequate for making coffee or a light breakfast but not equipped for preparing larger meals.

The shower is absolutely horrendous! The shower head was completely broken, toilet roll too cheap and horrible. The bathroom needs refurbished. Too many ants everywhere which I know is hard to control but they were in the bed! That was disgusting. They only provided a small and large towel on the first few nights and then only two small towels for the other two nights.. when I requested a new towel they couldn’t even give me an extra one, that was poor management. Pool towels are too old! Cheap things to fix are the towels and toilet roll, is not costly and could give a boost to the value of the property. The pool was dirty and old so we didn’t use it plus getting to the pool is not very clear and hard to open the gate. I would stay there again if the bathroom was fixed.

Beautiful house, our host Sonia was super friendly and was always available with helpful information about the area. The house is walking distance from incredible breakfast places where you can see the dolphins swimming right next to you (I recommend Lara&Luca breakfast place). It’s 2 min walk away from the closest hotel Catalonia where you can rent a car for the day (24hr) for $100 dollars and take a day trip to Tulum to see Sfrik museum and have lunch there (incredible picture spot). See Coba on your way back and go bicycling around Mayan pyramids. Rent a golf cart (usually about $20 per hour) and go around the place, golf course, dolphins, beach, restaurants. Súper beautiful.

Spacious and clean, with 2 large windows opposite each other providing a nice breeze. Green surroundings. Convenient location near beach and centre of restaurants, shops etc. Very responsive and pleasant hosts.

Nothing really to complain about. It’s a suite in nice family home , with children so you can hear some activities going on but if’s not an issue ( and better than loud drunk tourists).

Very clean and great location. Easy walk to the restaurants and shops area. Easy to walk to the beaches too. The backyard was very relaxing and beautiful. The pool was a little smaller than what we expected from looking at pictures. Pool was clean and quiet. Sonia and Alberto were very friendly and easy to contact if we had needed. Great place for the price!

This is a family home with young children. While their children were very sweet, they could be noisy and easily heard in the unit we were in.
