Phuwadee Resort & Spa

It's quite evident that high season in Ko Phangan means most people don't really care! Especially in this area. This resort was not our first choice by a mile but having booked at Sandee bungalows and getting treated like a 5 yr old when asking a question and asking for the answer to be repeated because it was in audible and getting the response N....O means NO we felt we didn't have much choice. We came into the reception and instead of a friendly greeting that you would normally get, we are got barked at... you have a booking? We advised that we didn't and we were looking for a basic room with fan only. The response was 700 THB - now we have travelled Thailand extensively for 6 months and this the most expensive accommodation we have had to date even in the south of Thailand which is notoriously much more expensive you can find cheaper and better! Anyway we asked if there was anything that could be done with the price as it was slightly over budget and we would commit to 7 days (this is Thailand after all, haggling is all part of it) we were advised no and we can go somewhere else. Unfortunately due to the location on the island this was the "cheapest" in the area so this was not an option to go wale wheee especially having paid 600 THB in a taxi to get there! We requested to see the room first, there was a bit of reluctance (even though they want 700 THB) but eventually a very annoyed man came out to show us the room, the room was less then okay not very clean but it had to do. Definitely not worth the price! The fan made a god almighty noise (having had a layover in Jakarta airport for 36 hours and then traveling from Bangkok in one day we just wanted a good nights sleep) we requested if we could view another room?? The response was "exactly the same"....so we asked again can we see it? He then replied with "but then I have to go and get the key??" It's not even a 1 min walk back to reception. Eventually with much reluctance again he got the key quickly opened the door and said "see same" and shut it. Without much choice we took it, we were asked for a 500 THB key Deposit which is ridiculous 100-200 THB maybe but 500 THB they must think they are made of 16 cart gold and encrusted with diamonds! We got to the room and went in, opened up the bathroom door and on the floor all over was a huge infestation of ants and other weird looking bugs crawling EVERYWHERE.... back to reception we go! We asked at reception to have the room with noisy fan (because god forbid we ask to see another room) we explained it was due to the ants, the lady then shouted at us "NO YOU CHECK OUT , YOU LEAVE" We advised the lady we didn't want to leave we just didn't want to be in a room where the bathroom floor was covered with ants everywhere, she said again "NO YOU LEAVE YOU MAKE PROBLEMS 1st ROOM YOU SAY FAN TO NOISEY NOW YOU COMPLAIN ANTS".. we advised that yes the fan was noisey but we would use our ear plugs.... I can't even believe paying 700 THB and you can't make a reasonable request to have a comfortable clean room? anyway she just about threw the key at us and pointed her finger in our face and said "ANYMORE PROBLEMS YOU GO! " Having avoided all contact and keeping to ourselves we came back from the beach through the restaurant that leads into reception so we could book a transfer and instead of a friendly greeting that you expect from a hotel/restaurant we were greeted with... "what do you want here". The guy didn't even realise that we were staying there?? So this is how they are willing to treat potential customers!! Kind of says it all. Needless to say we had zero confidence that this would be arranged so we went else where. We have being travelling for almost 9 months across Thailand, Laos , Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines and now back in Thailand and this is by far the worst experience we have ever had and a real let down to Thai people and culture. We have stayed in some pretty basic accommodation even to the point of a mattress on a concrete floor and this is by far the worst and dirtiest of them all - dirty floors, dirty toilet , towels smell like wee , the pool (see pictures) I wouldn't even put my big toe in it, it's disgusting. If we had been rude, aggressive or impolite I could maybe understand some of the treatment but to be treated like this because you a) asked to see more then one room and b) requested to change rooms due to an infestation of ants is ludicrous a down right disgusting. I went and requested toilet paper earlier on as our room has not been made up and the lady on reception stood pointing and talking about me to the man behind the bar making me feel even more uncomfortable and unwelcome then I have ever felt. We unfortunately had to endure 2 nights here as we needed to arrange transport and a ferry to Koh Tao, but I would seriously avoid staying here at any cost it's no wonder that except for 2 other rooms and our own the resort was completely empty and they have only 3 stars on trip advisor even that is generous and I have no idea how they have managed it.

We spent one relaxing week in an air-con bungalow on the beach, daily cleaning(well, bed making), a safe, fridge, mosquito screens, patio, functional free Wifi, beach towels on request, pool, restaurant with cheap quality food all family run, what more could you ask for. Overall, I'd say 2-star quality and prices on a 5-star beach with a village nearby with restaurants and supermarkets, ATMs. Did I mention it's on the beach!

I really loved this place. The only reason I can't give it 4 stars is because it's very far from all the shopping/nightlife and mostly the full moon party, which is why we went to the island. Everything else was booked so we found this place and they did not disappoint. Although the full moon party was far away, they offer a shuttle to and from the party for a very reasonable price. They have a nice pool, nice beach to swim in and decent restaurant. I would go back!

Really nice place! Located on the beach. The beach was clean, quiet and great for swimming. The restaurant was good and the staff were nice. There is village nearby, where there are plenty restaurants and shops.

Had lunch here a couple of times. Plan to come back for a couple more! Nice setting on the beach for lunch and the quality of the food and the price is unbeatable I think!? No fancy dining, just good food on the spot at reasonable price! Try it for lunch!!

The pool was the best part of the accommodation. Perfect temperature and very relaxing. The rooms were so so, nothing special but had all the things you needed. It was amazing to be right on the beach! The restaurant was good too - we had breakfast there and the coffee is delicious. Always enjoyed a cup of coffee in the morning right on the beach looking at the gorgeous view. I believe it wasn't worth the price we paid but it was decent enough!

Really surprised this doesn't have a better review score! The spot on the beach is perfect... we were so amazed that it has the same real estate spot as some of the high end resorts but for an incredibly low price (in comparison). Normally cheaper resorts are set back from the prime beach locations but this resort is literally on the beach. We had breakfast in the cafe/restaurant on the beach every morning, food was good and prices were reasonable. It's a lovely beach and a lovely area to swim. You can walk up the beach and try the other hotels restaurants or there are plenty of cheaper options in the roads just off of the beach. Our villa was literally steps from the beach, with a small outdoor seating area which was great for evenings. The rooms were quite basic but clean and they did the job. For us it was more about the position on the beach. Couldn't have asked for anymore, for the price we paid we were impressed. We were planning to explore the island more but we loved the spot so much we stayed put!
