"Beautiful ex colonial property by the beach"

9.0

Gorgeous ex colonial house, super well preserved & the furniture is incredible - the four poster beds are massive! The pool is lovely with sunbeds & towels provided. Staff are really helpful & friendly & restaurant is good for lunch & drinks around the pool. Location is next to the beach & has lots of little cafes. You can walk in 40min to finishing point for the backwaters & to see the town centre.

As the establishment is old, some areas could do with renovation, especially the bathroom & pool in general. That being said, I was very happy with its charm overall. As others have noted there’s a big bypass next to the property, but it’s pretty quiet & you don’t notice it’s there. There are building works happening next door too, although they weren’t too noisy & didn’t disturb me from relaxing.

"Very, misleading and hugely overly positive description and images."

4.0

The first thing to say is that all the staff were absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The breakfasts were plentiful and always included fresh fruit and juice, being based on traditional Keralan staple dishes. The hotel had a laid back, friendly atmosphere and could at times be quite relaxing. The hotel bar/restaurant offers some great traditional food, although choice can be a little limited. Bar/restaurant waiting staff were excellent, friendly, attentive and helpful, but incredibly busy (overworked?) and often short staffed. Although a small hotel, it does serve alcohol making the bar /restaurant attractive to non-residents, given alcohol is not widely available in Kerala. This added to pressure on bar/restaurant staff. Security was good, ensuring non-residents left by 10pm and gates closed. Unfortunately, that's about it for positives.

Essentially the place is in serious decline and requires a complete renovation. Very old unreliable plumbing ( we lost hot water twice and on another occasion hot and cold water), electrics, building fabric in general, including bathrooms, flooring in rooms and public areas and inadequate room cleaning. For example the pool, although water quality was well managed, the tiling (mosaic) was literally falling off daily, leaving exposed and crumbling concrete, with loose uneven flag stones around the edges. Although our room ("deluxe") was quite large, storage was inadequate, being just a wardrobe with a hanging rail half its width and the rest divided into three shelves (with a curtain covering instead of a door) and 3 small draws on a dressing table. Our room had both a/c and a ceiling fan, which kept it cool. However the windows had external wooden shutters that were fixed (screwed) closed, given the windows were eye level with bar area, which meant lighting was required during the day to light the room. That said, the electric lighting was not sufficient to enable you to find items of clothing etc even during the day.The bar/restaurant area (outside) was poor, with a dirty, uneven stone floor and a roof that leaked in the rain. Although there were some plants, there was little attention to creating a pleasant garden area (which would be easy, and a huge improvement), with an old broken electric tandoor oven further spoiling the area. Two major issues with the environment and their negative impact on the quality of our stay were the road to the front of the hotel and building work adjacent to the side and rear of the hotel (next to the pool area). A raised motorway has been constructed right in front of the hotel (parallel to the existing A66 coastal road) which towers above the Raheem Residence and is not shown in the hotel publicity images.

"Great safe and comfortable place in Alleppey to stay."

9.0

Great hospitality, lovely private terraces, and wonderful to have a clean refreshing pool. All staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

There’s road construction right in front of the property, but the property itself is very nice.

"Superb ambience. Old Colonial with a great restaurant and pool."

9.0

Very nice pool. Wonderful colonial era bungalow with dark wood ambience. Excellent restaurant/bar with highly professional waiters. Cold beer. Huge menu. Helpful reception. Opposite beach.

A couple of umbrellas by the pool would be an improvement.
