Olivers Guest House

Located on the sea front road and a 10 minute stroll from the shops. Free overnight sea-front parking (6pm-8am) available, diagonally opposite about 300 yards away which is convenient for checking in if you arrive after 6pm as we did. Charges after 8am applied and are quite steep. Nice cooked breakfast, prompt and friendly service. Included orange juice and choice of tea or coffee. Cereals available if required. Decaf coffee available but not decaf tea. The shower performed well and the water came through with reasonable force and heat. Sachets of body wash was were available.

It’s an old victorian end terrace, tired in places, with very steep, tight staircases. The room was small with a very small en-suite and just a rail for clothing. Parking was free but located in the Swannery public car park, about half a mile’s walk away. You are given a card to place on your dashboard and need to pay a £20 deposit which is refunded on return of the carpark card. This means you have to return to the guesthouse to collect your deposit after you’ve collected your car, which is a challenge as there is no parking near the house. You just have to chance parking over the double-yellow lines right outside and be quick!

Booking.com messed up room bookings but Oliver’s did their best to put it right. Don’t book room 5 or 6 unless you have any mobility problems.
