The Globe Hotel

Don't expect The Hilton but served it's purpose and ideal location from Town Centre and Colchester Town Train Station.

There has been an ongoing investment in this establishment since my last visit six years` ago. This has meant a marked improvement in overall standards resulting in a comfortable stay in a spacious,modern room. The "morning chef" was very attentive to my meal requirements and I left with a very favourable impression of "The Globe,Colchester ".

It was not easy to find this hotel just walking down the street but once we checked in we were happy with the room and with the hotel. It is located just a few blocks from the train station which was convenient for us because we were going on to Harwich to catch a cruise ship. A good continental breakfast was included in the price and the staff were friendly and helpful.

This hotel is well-placed with a good-sized car park. We were new to Colchester and The Globe Hotel is an easy walk from the centre of town in under 10 minutes. It has a great roof terrace, and the room was comfortable. Breakfast was well-priced and very good.

The George is a wonderful old, historic hotel. If you want a modern, soulless place, this is not for you. But if you enjoy history, the George is for you. The staff really makes the place. They are all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is huge. I would not recommend the armchairs in the pub area if you are planning to eat. There is a seating area just past the bar.

Good location for both town centre and North Station - pretty much equally between the two - a very simple (straight) walk in either direction, and far enough away from late night part of town to be quiet enough to sleep! Very close to the Riverside Walk entrance to Castle Park - beautiful for an early/late stroll. Certain parts of hotel look like they are being refurbished, but room well presented and clean. Relaxed self-service buffet breakfast offered plenty of choice.
