I booked a room with a balcony and was looking forward to peaceful views of the sea/icebergs. I didn't realise that the hotel terrace is positioned right in front of some of the balconies. My balcony was directly overlooked by anyone sitting on the terrace. It was a lot less private than I expected and also less peaceful than I expected due to people sitting on the terrace chatting. I feel that the photos of this room on the hotel page are a little misleading because they're angled so that the terrace isn't visible. The rooms also aren't quite soundproof, so if people are chatting on the terrace late at night you will be able to hear them. After my second night I did request to be moved to a room further away from the terrace and the staff kindly helped with this; the balcony in the new room was a bit more private but was still overlooked, and I feel like I didn't quite get what I paid for. Also, a good sleep mask is absolutely vital for the balcony rooms in the summer due to the skylight. There is no way to block the skylight, so the room remains fully bright at all times of night. I'm sure the skylight is great for seeing the stars and aurora borealis in winter, but it's a big downside in summer compared to rooms that have blackout blinds/curtains.

The location is excellent, right in front of the sea and you can easily spot whales there.

Rooms are a bit small.

Room was clean, spacious, smart furnitured. Beds verycomfortable. Amazing view from balcony and also fro hotel restaurant and from terrace. Super friendly staff. Very good breakfast, you can also get lunch and dinner in a hotel restaurant. Prices are higher for high level cuisine. If you plan visit Ilulissat for few day and is not above your budget, then Hotel Icefjord is the best place.
