The complimentary tea and scones in the afternoon and the sherry in your room. Good food in the dining room. Places to walk around the premises and sit by the Eel River. This is an historic place so keep that in mind. It’s like stepping back in time

We spent one night and ate at the restaurant. Lots of pros/cons: Pros: Really neat historic property with lovely flowers all over, and pleasant staff Enjoyed sitting out in the garden and down by the river Restaurant food was great, and worth the price Cons: Shady billing and tried to overcharge me by $15/night because the resort fee had gone up $15 since I made the reservation. Luckily I remembered what the room should have cost and they easily fixed it, but clearly this has been happening regularly given how smoothly it was resolved. It's just inexcusable to change the resort fee on existing reservations. Why is there a resort fee at all?! It's not a resort. There's not even a pool! All you get for your (now) $42/night fee is some lawn chairs, cornhole boards, and a decanter of sherry in the room. Dimmest bathroom I've been in since a dumpy place in the Atacama Desert in Peru. A SINGLE 60 watt bulb for the entire bathroom! Sure it's in a really nice fixture, but it was ridiculously dim. The water pressure is absurdly high. Some people might consider this a pro if they enjoy being power washed. It was full on Kramer Commando 450 in the shower.

What a beautiful historic (100 yr old) building. In great shape and near the avenue of the giants. The room was small but I wasn’t looking for more. They do have other options. I was impressed with the building and service. Food for breakfast was not the best. But overall I would recommend the stay.
