L'Alya Ninh Van Bay

A beautiful location set against a beautiful jungle with a beautiful beach. The facilities were all great. The villa we stayed in was exceptional.

Having a ‘butler’ was strange and unnecessary. The food and drinks are overpriced and obviously you’re stuck captive on an island. To make this better they should look to offer better value for money, given they already charge a premium for the stay anyway. The worst part of our stay was the laundry bill - We took it upon ourselves to use this as a mid-trip point to wash our clothes as we had been travelling a while and this was our luxury few days break. We washed all our clothes ourselves and then hung them. The next day we realised that the clothes were never going to dry, neither inside, nor outside. We asked whether we could use a dryer or could pay a small amount to have them dried. Considering this was basically all just underwear and a pair of shorts, it would have taken about 20 minutes in a machine. We were charged over 1 million dong - so about £40 to dry a small amount of clothes. This was completely extortionate, and we had no choice but to pay.

I loved the location and room because it was quiet and peaceful. The spa was relaxing and the staff were very very friendly. Thanks to our nice butler, Vu, we were looked after very meticulously with every single detail from our travels to our meals.

We enjoyed the resort very much! Beautiful villas are built in a way that doesn't disrupt nature and wildlife in the national park. Staff taking care of gardens, nature, sea, animals. We enjoyed few acitivities: nature exploration (it was amazing experience, gentle walk around the resort, we saw one monkey family and learnt a lot about plants growing in the resort which are also used in the restaurant), spa (we got the best massages ever-vietnamese traditional massage and swedish), hiking (fun experience, easy climb with our guide, wear good shoes and long pants because it can be slippery), kayaking (couldn't go far because of the wind but it was fun and easy to organize). We had our batler Anh who introduced us to the resort and helped us with anything we needed.

The venue and the staff were truly wonderful. We were taken care of very well by our butler Diep: she was amazing! We stayed in one of the villas on the hill and the view was very beautiful. They have plenty of activities to take part in but unfortunately because it was raining during our stay we didn’t get a chance to enjoy the outdoor activities.

In general prices there were a bit expensive, but probably something you would expect from a 5 stars resort. Nevertheless we felt there were no options available on the cheaper side, especially for example on the spa: every treatment was very expensive!

The swimming pool is too deep

It's a lovely quiet place. Staff were very polite and courteous. Staff was very good in attending to responding to email enquiries. Food was ok, some were very good, some below average, depending on what you pick. Would have loved to see more authentic Vietnamese food, rather than Italian etc. Breakfast was great with fresh juices and egg stations. The complimentary afternoon tea delivered by the butler was a very good touch, some of the afternoon treats were exceptionally good. The cooking classes that we had with the chef was very good. My husband remarked that the cabbage dumplings and the caramel chicken were superb, and tasted very authentic, however these were not served on guests lunch/dinner menu. The Italian menu was nothing to write home about, given we are from Europe, however when sauces used local herbs like in pesto sauce it was a delight. The spa has some room for improvement on massage quality. I had a deep tissue massage, but it just felt like my skin was being massaged. My husband went back a second time, said it was bit better as the pressure improved. The view of the place was stunning, staff did try their best to be attentive. The mosquitoes were a problem for me. Was wondering whether some mosquitoes screens across the open air bathrooms, living room. would improve the place. TV amenities could be improved as well, the volume was very low, showed a variety of movies but all with Vietnamese subtitles. Most places would have Netflix etc on TV.
