Cathedral Gate

We had a great mini break at this hotel. The location was perfect, being right in the centre of the city and next to the cathedral. The building had real character including sloping floors and lots of interesting features. We had a great room with a four poster bed and a view of the cathedral from our room. Everything was spotlessly clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly and made us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. As we were at the back of the hotel it was very quiet. Even the cathedral bells, which only rang twice a day, were not that loud and were lovely to hear. It added to the atmosphere. The continental breakfast was excellent. The fresh fruit salad was entirely fresh fruit and the service was good. I only have one suggestion to make on a sustainability matter and that is that the single use plastic cups in the room could be replaced with glasses, especially as there were tea cups which would need washing anyway. This would be better for the environment! The hotel was very good value for money and we will recommend it to others who wish to stay in Canterbury.

Extremely old property with all the wonderful quirks that come with it. Lots of stairs and uneven floors, proper character. Staff were lovely. We didn’t see any ghosts but apparently they do have a few.

Läget precis vid katedralen. Vänlig personal som tog sig tid att ge tips på restauranger etc.

De locatie op de Botermarkt, net naast de toegangspoort tot de kathedraal in het historisch centrum is fantastisch. Heel vriendelijk personeel en lekker ontbijt.
