The Decker House Bed & Breakfast

We had a wonderful overnight stay up in the top floor Magnolia room. After climbing the stairs up the three floors it was a beautiful oasis of calm. Everything had been thought of and the bed and bedding were so super comfortable and cozy. The attached bathroom was gorgeous and definitely take advantage of soaking in a hot bubble bath in the oversized jacuzzi tub. The morning breakfast was perfect with a fresh fruit and muesli over delicious yogurt before our yummy waffles. I wouldn’t just recommend to others, but definitely plan on coming back myself!

Incredible stay. I know it said bed and breakfast but we were blown away by the breakfast and treats that were in a jar by the entrance. Given that it is an old house I was nervous about the cold but it was cozy and warm. Not too hot at all. My only negative is regarding how quiet it is, I felt like I had to whisper in the room because I didn’t want to disturb the peacefulness. If you want a calm, relaxing stay with great food and beautiful architecture, this is the place to be. It was an incredible stay with a great location so everything was walkable. Will definitely be staying again in the future!

This is a nice b & b in downtown Mason City. It's close to everything for walking. The house is a historic building and the rooms are quaint and comfortable. The breakfast is amazing- Cynthia cooked us home made waffles! Cynthia is friendly and available. I would recommend this place.

Easy to get around. Nice breakfast.

No person to greet us,note in mail box.room looked nothing like on line.was clean,but dreary.lights dim,no bedside lamps.no instruction on tv.no local programs. Shower was great,hot water. Second floor,not good for elderly. Breakffast was a med.no coffee or tea offered.no one there when we checked out.

Absolutely fabulous!!! The host was welcoming and very friendly… She made great suggestions for dining!!! Our room was so lovely and upgraded to the room with a private outdoor seating area… Breakfast was wonderful and served beautifully!!! Highly recommend staying here!

There was no check-in process, no front desk, nothing to make you feel welcome. The front door was locked when I arrived, I had to call and the woman said she’d stepped out and she would get someone to open the door. I waited over 10 minutes until a dazed and confused teen in socks opened the door and said nothing while wandering away. I had to call out and ask how to check-in, they didn’t know and had to call someone. After another bit of standing around alone in the front hall the teen came back with a key and said my room was upstairs. That was the only person I saw for my entire stay. No directions to my room, instructions for check in…nothing. It’s old-style physical keys for the rooms which is neat but the doors and locks are old and there is a trick to opening them no one told me about. There was a sign INSIDE my room that said check-in is by appt only and yet when the property texted me the morning of my stay to ask when I would arrive and I said I HOPED to be there between 2-3 (I was coming from 3 hrs away and wasn’t entirely sure), they only replied “check-in is at 3 so that’s oerfect.” That leads one to believe your room will be ready at 3 or later, not “show up at 3:30 and no one will be around.” The room was cute and seemed clean, other than the disconcerting ring that appeared after I used the jacuzzi tub, making me wonder what had been floating in the water with me. Overall it was quiet but so freaking weird that no one was around on a Sat-Sun stay.

Loved the ambience! Such a quaint peaceful setting! Cynthia, was an awesome hostess! Made us feel completely welcomed & she makes an awesome breakfast! I feel like I left an old friend behind when I said goodbye! Will definitely be back again!
