Please note this is based on my personal experience and is shared to help others make an informed decision. For context, we were a party of six.
First Impressions & Grounds
Aesthetically, the hotel makes a strong first impression. The grounds are well maintained, and the view from the pool area is genuinely lovely, with the silhouette of the mountains visible in the distance. Unfortunately, this is largely where the positives end.
Staff
The hotel is visibly understaffed, which becomes apparent quite quickly. Unlike other hotels I have stayed at, where staff are present throughout the reception, restaurant and communal areas, here that presence was largely absent. The majority of the staff I encountered were unwelcoming, particularly those working around the pool bar and the mini restaurant. On multiple occasions, staff were on their phones, and when they did attend, there was a noticeable attitude. This was not a language barrier issue as we shared the same language, and it was consistent across multiple members of staff. The one exception worth highlighting was the room cleaning ladies, who were genuinely pleasant throughout the stay.
Food & Dining
The buffet restaurant reflected many of the same issues. The selection was limited, typically offering two daily specials alongside a few additional options. When approaching the live cooking stations, the staff serving were visibly disengaged and, on more than one occasion, borderline slammed food onto my plate. The limited options meant that anything worthwhile ran out quickly, and restocking was inconsistent. As a group of six, we found the standard four-seater table arrangement frustrating, and attempts to rearrange seating were met with visible annoyance from staff. To compound matters, management chose to close off a section of the seating area during the dinner rush, which, while understandable given the staffing levels, was nonetheless a poor experience for guests.
Room
The family room itself was spacious, accommodating a double bed and two single or sofa beds comfortably. However, the bathroom told a different story. It was noticeably worn, with permanent staining in the toilet and around the bathtub. The shower head was broken and leaking, meaning the only option was to use the bathtub to shower. The drainage was also poor, causing water to accumulate during use, which I personally found unpleasant, though I acknowledge this may not bother everyone. The towels provided were also extremely worn and well past their best. It is also worth noting that water is not replenished daily. We received one bottle upon arrival, and that was the extent of it for the duration of the stay. On top of that, the room does not have a kettle, which for many guests may be a small but noticeable inconvenience.
Amenities & Gym
The hotel offers a reasonable range of amenities, including a volleyball court, a basketball court with noticeably bent rims, pétanque and a gym. Having only used the gym, I can speak to that specifically. It was tired and in need of investment. Equipment was worn, weights were damaged, paint was peeling from the walls, and dead mosquitoes remained stuck to the walls throughout my stay.
Pool
The pool was a genuine highlight, and the hotel has three to choose from, one large pool for relaxed and undisturbed swimming, a second for organised activities run by the entertainment team, and a smaller kids' pool. It is worth noting that the pools are not heated, so in cooler temperatures the water is quite cold. We were seemingly the only ones actually getting in, and in warmer weather this would likely be a very different experience. That said, we made the most of it. One issue that became difficult to ignore was the lack of attention from staff when it came to clearing plates and glasses around the pool area. Used dishes were left sitting for extended periods, which attracted a noticeable amount of flies and bees throughout the day.
Entertainment
There appeared to be activities and entertainment on most evenings, however, given the dining situation, we opted to eat out for dinner on most nights, which meant missing the majority of the evening programme. This is not a criticism of the entertainment itself but simply context.
Noise & Room Location
Throughout the duration of the stay, most nights after around 11pm to midnight, there was a notable amount of noise and chatter coming from what appeared to be below our room, possibly from staff or guest quarters at basement level. This consistently disturbed my sleep, though I will note I am a light sleeper and this may not be an issue for most guests.
Practical Note on Pool Towel Deposit
One thing worth flagging for anyone staying here: a deposit is required for pool towels, which is standard. What is not communicated upfront is that the receipt must be retained and presented when checking out in order to reclaim the deposit. Most hotels manage this digitally, but that is not the case here. Without the receipt, a refund may not be issued.
Summary
Overall, I would give this hotel a 2 out of 5. It is not the worst place I have stayed, but it is far from the best, and it falls well short of what you would reasonably expect from a property marketed as a 4-star hotel. The grounds are pleasant, the pools are a nice feature, and the cleaning staff for the rooms were a bright spot, but the consistent issues with staffing levels, attitude, food quality, room maintenance and general upkeep let the experience down considerably. That said, if you are looking for a budget-friendly holiday and are going in with realistic expectations, it will do the job. Just be prepared to manage without the level of service and comfort that the star rating might suggest and perhaps plan to eat out for most of your evening meals.
