Safestay York Micklegate

The building the hostel is in is very cool and old and has a lot of history, however, because of this the windows are not very effective in blocking out sound from the street. We could hear word for word conversations of people passing by on the road. Did ask staff for ear plugs but they didn’t have any left unfortunately.

Took a chance and booked a family room here. Reception not brilliant. Didn't even consider the idea of early check-in, insisted on photo ID even though not mentioned on booking confirmation and never asked for in UK hotels for UK citizens and later on had to witness an argument between them will waiting for bar. The corridors and room floor had not been vaccumed properly and the bathroom had hairs. Pity as room big and quiet. This is a hostel but I was paying a hotel rate. Other points. Down stairs loos need coat hooks and room bathroom needs shelf to put tolitaries on.

Very budget-friendly. Nice location. The shared room is spacious to open your luggage and organise your stuff.

Great location and staff.

We had a good time. Close to the train station but also to York City Centre. The staff was very friendly and let us store luggage when we arrived early and after check out. The room was clean with a secure under-bed storage unit. We didn’t, however, have accesss to an outlet in our room which meant charging our phones became a hassle.

Great location & value for money. Lovely double en-suite room, quiet location.

It's a good place.

We had a family ensuite room on the top floor, 5fl. The room was quite large but the bathroom is very small. The breakfast was only toast, ham and chess. Coffee was terrible. You can find better breakfast in York. So don't pay for it.

For the money this place is excellent value. You are given an allocated bunk so no fighting for bottom bunks! Excellent customer service and very clean. The bunks even have curtains for privacy. The only thing I would say is that is situated near a few clubs and because the Georgian building isn't soundproof you hear loud music (gone 2am on the Saturday I was there). But this is a minor grumble.
